Absolutely terrible year, in my opinion. My least favorite from 1980-2007. If we stretch it to include 1980-2009.... it would be in the bottom 5 for me. Even below 2001. At least 2001 had 7 movies I really like, where this year maybe 6 and not even that. My top 3/maybe 4 is the only ones I feel good about. And after #6 are just mild picks for me. Though 1982 has the much better #1.
The one irony is that it's the greatest lead actress year of all time. absolutely #1...... with 5 godly lead actress performances, and my #7 could be my winner, but here I don't even nominate. Rest of the categories are ok. But I stopped caring about Lead Actor after the Top 3. Supporting Actor after the Top 2. And supporting actress maybe the Top 4.

Of the 16 films I've seen from this year, I think there are a handful of classics. I really like my Lead Actor lineup; any of the five would be worthy winners for me. This board seems to be sleeping on Sandra Bernhard's performance in King of Comedy; one of my all-time favorites. Finally... how can anybody dislike ET?! Best PictureET
