But seriously, guys and gals, Rosemary Harris in Spider-Man 2. Let's make this happen. Proof below: Rosemary Harris is definitely going on my best supporting actress list. That hero speech (that you posted), that she gives gets me misty-eyed everytime I watched. She was a perfect Aunt May.

going forward I'm creating my sound/VFX/song categories pretty much from scratch so I need FYCs!

That hero speech (that you posted), that she gives gets me misty-eyed everytime I watched. She was a perfect Aunt May. Amen! It's a big reason why the film works sooooo well for me too. Take away the superhero elements from the film and it's a damn fantastic drama, and it's a shame that the "superhero" label is what always seems to keep Rosemary Harris (or the film itself) off so many lists. Perhaps the most inspiring scene ever and she sells it wholesale.

going forward I'm creating my sound/VFX/song categories pretty much from scratch so I need FYCs! Some FYCs by category: Visual Effects- Spider-Man 2 - Raimi's always had a way of using both practical and digital effects, but watching this even 16 years later the special effects hold up SO well. Better than some films that came out just a year ago. Also FYC for Sound.
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - Like the above, except that in wonderful Cuaron fashion, there's a lot of great VFX that just goes on in the background that you don't even realize, and also a lot of great practical stuff.
- Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow - A snoozefest of a film from what I remember, but almost on par with Sin City's work a year later where it's almost 95% green screen, but it works.
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Gondry's always had a knack for amazing VFX work in indie projects (just look at his music videos, I mean he literally developed "bullet time" for a Bjork video). This is no different.
Best Sound- The Bourne Supremacy - I mean, duh.
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - The mixing is incredible, throwing so many layers over top of one another (the editing also does a fantastic job of this), but never making you feel lost.
- House of Flying Daggers - This is maybe more of a big FYC for Choreography, but it also has seamless sound work.
Original ScoreDanny Elfman - Spider-Man 2James Newton Howard - The VillageJon Brion - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Original Song"Our Love is Beautiful" - Mean Creek"A Waltz for a Night" - Before Sunset"The End of an Act" - Team America: World Police"Strings That Tie to You" - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

I notice that the movie isn't listed in the video title. It's Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence.

don't forget about Kinsey! One of Neeson's best performances, and Sarsgaard's great too.

also a reminder that Sideways isn't as good as you remember, it's better. FYC in all categories, and don't sleep on Kevin Tent's editing!

FYC: WindstruckDefinitely among my favourite romantic films of the 21st century, it manages to blend drama and comedy quite seamlessly and to be cheesy in all the right ways. And Jun Ji-hyun's performance is probably the best of the year for me.

okeydokey, this is my watchlist. May not get to everything but we'll see. Obviously some are bigger priorities than others, but my 2004 lineups are kind of dire so I want to see as much as I can.
2046 Antares Being Julia The Bridesmaid Hellboy The Hidden Blade House of Flying Daggers Layer Cake Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events The Manchurian Candidate Maria Full of Grace Moolaadé The Notebook Saving Face Three...Extremes Tropical Malady Undertow The Village
and a couple rewatches: The Aviator Eternal Sunshine Hotel Rwanda

Whoooooa, guys. I just rewatched Cellular. Dumb fun does not get more dumb or more fun than this. A best director nod for David R. Ellis would be inspired, is all I'm sayin'.

Should we have a lead v. supporting thread? Do we have any borderline cases? I think we can all agree that Jamie Foxx is category fraud. If Collateral is supporting, so is Ray.
