This is maybe the most interesting category this year for me. I can see it going any of three ways. It’s the last empty spot for me in my prediction ballot. I was about to go with Hollywood until 1917 won just now and I don’t know...

Honestly, I'm torn between everything that isn't The Irishman. I'll throw a vote to Parasite if only because they really have been building that narrative about constructing that house and making it feel like a character in itself, and it actually did get nominated and won Contemporary as well.

I thought OUATIH was always the frontrunner here. Obviously Parasite and 1917 just got big boosts but OUATIH has the flashiest and "most" production design and with the ADG under its belt I think it's going all the way. Also the BAFTAs historically haven't been good predictors in the tech categories so OUATIH losing there doesn't mean much...

Yeah, production design being "maybe the most interesting category this year" sure says a lot about this year, does it not?
I still think this is Hollywood's to lose. 1917's BAFTA win here means little to nothing for Oscar implications. Of course a '60s Hollywood recreation isn't going to mean as much to a British voting base as it will to the "regional" (as Bong Joon-ho puts it) L.A. awards. Hollywood feels like it was practically designed to win this award, not to mention it feels like by far the showiest of the options.

God, I hope it's Hollywood, but I think the 1917 love could be too much to overcome here.

I’ll agree that ADG is better but it feels like 1917 was probably out to late to get in there so it’s hard to tell if Hollywood would have won there had 1917 been nominated.

Both are worthy of Oscars. Keep in mind that the sets in 1917 had to be a specific measurement in order to allow the cameras to move through all the scenes. On the other hand, you have an amazing production design which captured 1969 Hollywood and became a character. I am going with Hollywood, because it won the Critics Choice and ADG.

Despite the BAFTA loss I think it's still pretty firmly in OUATIH's hands.

OUATIH but 1917 would be a worthy winner too.

I won't rule 1917 out but I guess it will be OUATIH.
