Wins Golden Globe Picture and Director, goes on to win both PGA and DGA, loses the Oscar for Picture though even Pvt Ryan had acting branch support with nominations for Hanks and the cast.

Shakespeare in Love also won WGA, the Globe comedy BP, and BP at the BAFTAS. No single challenger to 1917 is going to be able to build a resume like that, especially since 1917 is sure to win at the BAFTAS
Shakespeare in Love was a much stronger contender in terms of matching the taste of Oscar voters at the time than anything 1917 is going up against this year.

Oscars is an American thing and always has been. I see no real chance of Parasite winninig only because of that. Although I'd be happy if it did.

Anything can happen, maybe it'll be the first time foreign language Film win BP, besides Academy has agenda with Diversity and shits. Why not make history with it, academy almost reaches 100 years of age and no foreign film win BP? Ehhh, in the popular discussion around diversity in awards they pretty much just mean black people and certainly not foreign language. Outside of hardcore cinephiles no one cares about whether foreign movies win BP or acting awards. Even though that's arguably the more relevant form of diversity, but that's how it is. The Academy hasn't even been particularly responsive to the oscarssowhite thing either thus far.

American thing but it preferred King's speech to Social Network, Shakespeare in love to Ryan, Chariots of fire to Reds, Gandhi to ET, Brave heart to Apollo 13, English Patients to Fargo, etc. They see it on merit not because of National identity, bitch. All these are English languages movies. You understand the difference, bozo.

I agree. SIL is no Parasite by any means.
SIL came into the ceremony with the most nominations. SIL won three Golden Globes -- Picture, Screenplay and Actress SIL was nominated for three acting awards at the Oscars and Globes. 4 at the SAG awards.

This was also said about La La Land. Reminder that there's no proof 1917 has support from the acting branch
