I like when the worst performances are in the worst films because it makes them easier to remember......
John Travolta - The Fanatic
Alison Williams - The Perfection

FYC Bill Camp in Dark Waters - I've always liked him, really, but that is an outrageous, laughable performance

The horrendous male lead from "After" (Ralph Fiennes's nephew?) Nicky Guadagni in "Ready or Not" Not entirely awful but very underwhelming: Sophie Turner in "Dark Phoenix", Kelvin Harrison Jr. in "Luce" and Mark Ruffalo in "Dark Waters" who for some reason walks through almost the entire film with a face

FYC Bill Camp in Dark Waters - I've always liked him, really, but that is an outrageous, laughable performance Yeah, I liked the film but its performances were strangely disappointing. Camp is usually good but here what he was doing just didn't click. And what the fuck was up with those eyebrows? It's like they waxed a 70s porn star pubes and slapped all the hair onto his face.

"Yeah, so Bill . . . we're not gonna lie, we really wanted Beau Bridges but he was asking for too much money. But Todd really wants a Beau Bridges type. So will you stick these caterpillars on your eyebrows for us?"

Elisabeth Moss in Her Smell definitely would be down there. The entire voice cast of The LEGO Movie 2 as well.

These three for me were definitely among the worst performances of last year:
Jake Gyllenhaal - Velvet Buzzsaw Beanie Feldstein - Booksmart Florence Pugh - Midsommar

Nicky Guadagni in "Ready or Not" I thought the entire ensemble was terrible. One of the most annoying movies of the year.

FYC Bill Camp in Dark Waters - I've always liked him, really, but that is an outrageous, laughable performance Off-Topic: Just goes to show that the "buzz" is wrong as much as it right because someone said that he was one to watch for in Supporting Actor after a test screening. I forget which films test screeners did get right this year. I know there was buzz for Laura Dern from early on in the year, but I think that came from pundits who had heard things. I know they were right about Little Women mostly although I did see one person say that the structure would be too confusing for people to follow which really didn't turn out to be an issue with the general audience or AMPAS. I heard great things about A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood and how Hanks might win his third Oscar, so sort of right although a little bit exaggerated. The Aeronauts was a complete miss though. Maybe if Amazon had released it like they were originally going to, maybe it wouldn't have been a bust, but even with critics, it didn't seem they had much passion for it at all. For this year, I've seen both good and bad things about Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods, so who knows which one will end up being true. On-Topic: I can't believe Meryl Streep in The Laundromat hasn't been brought up yet. She was fine for part of the performance, but as soon as she switches characters. Yikes. Tiffany Haddish, The Kitchen - She wasn't too bad, but for me she was the obvious weakest link. I mean the movie sucks, but at least McCarthy and especially Moss were fine to really good. Olivia Wilde, Richard Jewell - I really liked Richard Jewell except for Wilde. I don't think she clicked with Eastwood's style of directing and could have definitely used more takes. Taika Waititi, Jojo Rabbit - I think he can be funny, but his shtick really wore thin here.

Winston Duke, Us Billie Lourd, Booksmart Cardi B, The Hustlers Bryce Dallas Howard, Rocket Man Bob Odendirk, Little Women I actually love all of these except for Bryce Dallas Howard who I can't believe I forgot to put on my own list even Bob Odenkirk. I do think he was out of place, but then I read someone say that maybe he's just an incredible Louisa May Alcott fan and just had to be in the movie so that's my head canon now. I'm still confused about Bryce Dallas Howard other than I guess she's just incredibly connected to people because of who she is, but the UK has all these great actors who probably would have been cheaper than her, but they go with her. I mean I like her in other things, but she was definitely miscast as Elton's mom.

I mean I like her in other things, but she was definitely miscast as Elton's mom. The extra weird thing about Bryce Dallas Howard playing Elton's mom in Rocketman is that she and Taron are only eight years apart, and it's really noticeable, even with all the old-age makeup. I mean I'll give her credit for being unrecognizable, and not doing the worse English accent, but still I'm honestly surprised they didn't cast an older respected veteran British actress in the role. It would have made way more sense. It's not like they were gonna sell the movie around her or something.
