Since 2016, the Academy's primary concern is - by miles and miles - being able to publicly pat themselves on the back and getting as little hate as possible in the process. With all the anger over lack of inclusion targeted at these dumbass movie awards lately, not nominating a highly well received, mainstream, successful (industry, critics, and general public wise) film based on a beloved story about women, directed by a woman, would be baffling. I'm honestly going to be surprised if Gerwig isn't in for Best Director.
Then again, the thing the Academy is actually best at is embarrassing themselves, so anything is possible.
The movie itself is OK. It's definitely better than a good chunk of the crap that's been up for Best Picture this decade.

No one gave a shit about it last Sunday and probably won't give a shit either next Monday. Twitter needs to be destroyed for the sake of publicity

I could see it just getting nods for Saoirse and PD/costumes. Gerwig is definitely not getting a director nod regardless.

Not saying I think Little Women is going to sweep or anything, but I see it getting in for Picture, Director, Supporting Actress, Costume Design, Score, maybe Actress, and 1 or 2 others I'm blanking on right now. Twitter shouldn't be a thing that exists, so yeah.

I think it's going to look particularly bad when the Lead Actress category is comprised of (at least) four white blondes when there have been so many lauded performances by women of color.

Little Women made PGA and WGA. It also got 5 nods from BAFTA - Actress, Supporting Actress, Screenplay, Score, Costumes.
It's Bombshell that has fizzled. It overperformed at SAG Ensemble. But then no PGA. Only Theron, Robbie and make-up at BAFTA.
According to pundits, Little Women has done better at the box office than Bombshell - which they said bombed.
