He’s been a strange case this season. Makes Globes and SAG despite no other noms for the film. Misses BAFTA despite the film getting a healthy amount of below the line support and being a Brit. A WGA snub to Booksmart which has shown no strength anywhere else. Then rebounds for PGA and now has decent odds for a BP nom. Bale is also typically a very critic friendly performer and has not shutout almost entirely with critics groups. Thoughts?

The guy made it for one of his worst performances back then in 2013. I think he's in and will replace Leo

Would love to see it because it was a real great movie star turn - open and likable - the exact performance his critics say he can't do. Also there's history on the line here - a nod gives him 5 this decade a feat only accomplished by Brando (50s) and Pacino (70s).......I think he misses because his film doesn't have the heft to do the work for him but he's real close.

You can't count him out. They love the guy. If someone gets snubbed, he's taking the spot.

You can't count him out. They love the guy. If someone gets snubbed, he's taking the spot. He’s only been nominated in top five BP nominees. No one could be bothered with his Out of Furnance or Hostiles work, and though there were probably several factors there, I think one of the biggest is that neither were strong overall contenders. I don’t really see any evidence of the Academy going out of their way to nominate him in the past, so this will be interesting to watch unfold. FvF feels like a lower tier BP nominee if it even makes it, and the competition is so strong this year that I do think he’s on the outside looking in at this point. As for BAFTA, I can understand why DiCaprio made it in over him, but he could have and probably needed to make it over Pryce if he were to be a sure bet for the Oscar nom.

Nobody saw Out of the Furnance and Hostiles but a lot of people saw and liked FvF. I'm not saying it will happen but if it does then we can't be that surprised.

Globe+BAFTA usually beats Globe+SAG, IIRC. But FvF is stronger than TTP. I think Bale and Pryce are pretty even. And as iHeart said, Bale has never been nominated for a non-top-5 BP nominee, and he has never been nominated without BAFTA either, so this will be a first for him in two ways if he manages it. I think I have him at 6th now, just behind Banderas and just ahead of Pryce.

Yeah, I'm too lazy to look it up but that was the Nicholson slight and it sometimes is odd - I'm pretty sure Nicholson got GG/BAFTA but only the ensemble at SAG- only DiCaprio got all 3 for The Departed - the other guy got the nod for that film with only SAG ensemble and GG......DiCaprio nodded for Blood Diamond which he actually missed the BAFTA for iirc

He didn't get much love from BAFTAs in the past either. Remember he hasn't won a single BAFTA despite being nominated 4 times. So i wouldn't put much thought into his BAFTA snub. I still think he can make it for the Oscars but the chances are slim.

I still think he can make it for the Oscars but the chances are slim. Plus, Pryce was expected to be much more in play here than anywhere else. So was Egerton naturally so it's hard for me to construe thus as a 'snub' exactly. They were not gonna snub one of *their guys for the American British!

I guess he's out but I can't say for sure.
It's a very competitive category this year.

Not in a year this competitive. I'd say he's out and more likely to lose his place to a passion pick like Banderas and/or Sandler. If not, I'd really be annoyed as his hammy performance got me on my nerves.

Having recently watched Ford Vs Ferrari,he absolutely deserves to be nominated, but I think, given how strong the competition is this year, that he will miss.
