As promised, lets review the Writer's Guild. Due to eligibility rules, not all the elite screenplays are eligible for the Writer's Guild awards. See here and here for the complete list.
BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
Locks - The Irishman, Jojo Rabbit and Little Women
The Irishman scored nominations at the Globes, Critics Choice and USC Scripter awards. Jojo Rabbit and Little Women landed Critics Choice and Scripter nominations.
Major Ineligibles - Downton Abbey, Frozen 2, Judy, and Toy Story 4
Main Contenders - A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (Critics Choice), Dark Waters (Scripter), and Joker (Critics Choice)
My Best Guess - ABDITN and Joker. I say Joker for its Best Picture attention and ABDITN for his buzz around Tom Hanks' performance.
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Locks - Marriage Story and Parasite
Both scored a Globe and Critics Choice Best Picture attention, and seen as a top 5 Best Picture contender.
Major Ineligibles - Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, The Farewell, Pain and Glory, Midsommar and The Peanut Butter Falcon
Main Contenders - The Two Popes (Critics Choice, Globe, Scripter nominees), Knives Out (Critics Choice), Hustlers (Lopez buzz), and Best Picture contenders 1917, Bombshell, Dolemite is My Name, Ford v. Ferrari, Rocketman and Uncut Gems
My Best Guess - The Two Popes, Knives Out and Bombshell
For those of you curious, Hustlers and The Two Popes are seen as original by the Writer's Guild board, not adaptations.
How about you?
