Murphy is the odds on favorite to win on Goldderby ( Dicaprio is second favorite, Egerton third). Sure, it seems like any of the three could take it, but it's slightly bizarre that Murphy is almost seen as the rank outsider here, yet is the Goldderby favorite.

They each have something going for them, and you mentioned DiCaprio and Egerton's upsides.. Murphy though feels like maybe the most zeitgiesty industry pick. He's for many the GOAT of comedy acting in the midst of a hugely successful comeback and just hosted one of the most talked about and highest rated episodes of Saturday Night Live in years . Murphy may have peaked at the exact right moment with that SNL episode. Does feel like a bit of a coin toss category though. None of them would be a surprise at this point.

Also, this may be oversimplifying it, but if you have a chance to put Eddie Murphy on stage in fun a mic you probably want to do that.

I'm actually impressed that Murphy has seemingly come back as much as he has, since I didn't even consider him for a win prior. I definitely think that SNL episode dropping when it did, played a big part in it. It reminded people just how good he was.

These guys are always so bizarre and hard to predict that I’m sure I’ll be dead wrong about all of this, but I’ll give it a shot.
Best Picture — Drama: Joker. Best Picture — Comedy or Musical: Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood. Best Director: Martin Scorsese, The Irishman. (Literally nothing would surprise me here, though.) Best Actor — Drama: Joaquin Phoenix, Joker. Best Actress — Drama: Renee Zellweger, Judy. Best Actor — Comedy or Musical: Taron Egerton, Rocketman. Best Actress — Comedy or Musical: Awkwafina, The Farewell. Best Supporting Actor: Brad Pitt, Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood. Best Supporting Actress: Laura Dern, Marriage Story. (Kinda wanna NGNG Lopez but I don’t see MS going empty-handed.) Best Screenplay: Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood. (Could also be Parasite which I’m predicting for the Oscars, but I think these guys will go big on OUATIH.) Best Original Score: Joker. Best Original Song: Rocketman. Best Foreign Film: Parasite. Best Animated Film: Toy Story 4.

Picture: Joker & Jojo RabbitDirector: Martin Scorsese (The Irishman) Screenplay: Parasite Lead Actor: Joaquin Phoenix & Leonardo DiCaprio Lead Actress: Scarlett Johansson & Awkwafina Supporting: Joe Pesci & Jennifer Lopez Foreign: Parasite Animated: Toy Story 4 Score: 1917 Song: Rocketman Going out on a limb on some, but I'm pretty confident I'll stick with some of these. If Jojo pulls out the upset, it'll be the fourth year in the row the TIFF winner and Golden Globe Best Picture winner match.
