In less than two weeks, will be the Golden Globes ceremony. Historically, the Globes have pretty much lined up with the Oscar winners. Below is the last decade.
2018 - 7/7 2017 - 5/7 (Picture and Screenplay) 2016 - 5/7 (Best Supporting Actor and Screenplay) 2015 - 4/7 (Picture, Supporting Actor, and Screenplay) 2014 - 5/7 (Picture and Director) 2013 - 6/7 (Supporting Actress) 2012 and 2011 - 6/7 (Director) 2010 - 5/7 (Picture and Director) 2009 - 4/7 (Screenplay, Director, Picture)
Who do you think is going to win this year?
I am going to say:
Best Picture - The Irishman & Hollywood
Playing it safe here. Both films scored critics choice, globe, and sag best picture nominations, and up for best director and screenplay at the globes.
Best Director - Martin Scorsese
Really tough one, but the Globes love Scorsese. I see the rich getting richer here.
Actor - Joaquin Phoenix & Leonardo Dicaprio
Both actors scored critics choice, globe, and sag nominations. I say Phoenix because it is a loud performance, versus Driver which is quiet and subtle, and filled with a lot of dry humor. I like Dicaprio because he's a Globe favorite. However, I think Driver and Bale are very much players to upset Phoenix. On the other side, Egerton for playing a real-life character might pull out the win. He did beat out Dicaprio at the Satellite awards.
Actress - Renee Zellwegger & Awkwafina
This is tricky for drama, but not so much comedy/musical. I can see De Armas winning here, being attached to a Best Picture nominee, but she's not getting the same recognition as Awkwafina/Nora Lum. I am going with Zell over Scarjo because it's Judy Garland and it's the flashier of the bunch.
Supporting - Brad Pitt & Jennifer Lopez
I am pretty sure about Pitt. He's the awards leader here, has one hell of a third act, and attached to my predicted Globe Best Picture winner. With Lopez, it is between her and Dern. Much like my other logic, I am going to go flash over subtlety.
Screenplay - Quentin Tarantino
I can see Irishman winning here, but I think Tarantino is more of a globe favorite.
Score - 1917 Animated - Toy Story 4
Song - Rocketman Foreign Language - Parasite

If ever there was any hope to derail the Pitt train it's here and to a lesser extent SAG because the Globes really love Pacino - 2nd most nominated male ever combined totals, 18 nods with 4 wins and Pesci has never won a Globe so could be due.
Pacino triples Pitt's Globe totals (6 noms, 1 win), he's more than six times Pesci's totals (3 nods, 0 wins) and even towers over Hopkins (7 nods, 0 wins) and to a lesser extent surpasses Hanks (10 nods, 4 wins).......this is actually where there is a race since Irishman and OUATIH will win pictures and pull one actor in....now I still think it will be Pitt but if he loses anywhere it could mean something it's here to one of The Irishman boys.

Pacino has not won a single supporting actor award this season and has missed several nominations. At some point critics awards can't be dismissed and start to illuminate voting patterns. Especially when Pacino is in an acclaimed film and Pitt and Pesci have won several each and not missed literally anywhere. I think the hope of Pacino winning anything of consequence this season is over, even if the HFPA love him. They would be going out of their way to award him in a way they rarely do. And in a category full of icons at that. Makes no sense to me. There's only two people who can win this award.

Best Picture Drama - The Irishman I don't know almost everything makes sense here, but The Irishman got Director and Screenplay. I'm tempted to predict Joker though just because BR won this last year.
Best Picture Comedy/Musical - Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Best Actor Drama - Joaquin Phoenix, Joker
Best Actress Drama - Scarlett Johansson, Marriage Story I think they throw a curveball here.
Best Actor Comedy/Musical - Leonardo DiCaprio, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood I was going with Egerton, but between my two Best Actress picks, I figured that was enough surprises for the Globes to do. So I'll be safe and go with DiCaprio.
Best Actress Comedy/Musical - Ana de Armas, Knives Out Wish predicting more than anything, but I'll still go with de Armas. I know technically Awkwafina is most likely for the Oscar nomination out of the nominees, but I think she's pretty far back in 7th place so maybe it won't matter in the end? Just comparing their performances, I don't know how you'd go with Awkwafina, actually I don't know how you'd go with Awkwafina over the other nominees either, but they have more cons than de Armas. Not that I don't like Awkwafina's performance, but definitely not win worthy to me.
Best Supporting Actor - Brad Pitt, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Best Supporting Actress - Laura Dern, Marriage Story The Globes might go for star power, but they love Dern, and I think they'd rather be right about "predicting" who is going to win the Oscar than making a moment. Stallone made sense because no one else emerged as a strong threat at that time, but Dern is right there.
Best Director - Quentin Tarantino, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Could see almost anyone win here except Phillips, but I'll go with Tarantino.
Best Screenplay - Bong Joon Ho and Han Jin Won, Parasite I don't know, but I think Parasite will win something else besides Best Foreign Language Picture.
Best Animated Motion Picture - Toy Story 4 I wouldn't be surprised to see The Lion King surprise though just to cap off the wackiness of it even getting a nomination when it wasn't submitted here.
Best Foreign Language Motion Picture - Parasite
Best Original Score - 1917 I don't know. I'll just say 1917, so they can throw it a bone.
Best Original Song - Beautiful Ghosts Don't know about this either, but it seems like they either match the Oscar winner exactly or the Oscar doesn't even nominate whoever wins the Globe. It's probably going to be Into the Unknown for both, but I could see them awarding Beautiful Ghosts because it fits the latter pattern.

They would be going out of their way to award him in a way they rarely do. And in a category full of icons at that. Makes no sense to me. There's only two people who can win this award. No, not really. The Globes often will reward people who haven't won a critics award - in fact one of Pacino's Globe wins had t his exact same thing happen specifically. Now different circumstances sure and no front runner then, BUT still it's not unprecedented. I don't think Pacino will win the Globe as I said (and he could easily - EASILY - miss an Oscar nomination - wouldn't surprise me at all), but assuming that Pacino can't win a Golden Globe because he's missed/lost critics awards is illogical. Critics groups don't factor in at the Globes especially the Globes. It's a very small number of voters to start with - voting in a category that could split votes because it's competitive - it's perfectly logical actually that if he wins one award.........it would be THIS one due to his past nods/win history at the Globes or he himself creates the scenario for Pesci to win if you prefer also - where the base is so small, they aren't splitting votes but rather keeping Pitt's votes down here where every vote either gets keeps the winning margin small enough to steal it (possibly, not likely) from Pitt.

Probably the one from Frozen, although I don't know much about the songs category. As for BS actress, my logic is that I haven't yet seen Hustlers I dunno, it seems that Dern will be the indisputable Oscar and GG winner. Not that her performance wowed me but that's how things are. Pitt in OUATIH didn't wow me either but he's gonna win, no matter what I think!!

(I feel like a traitor because I'm part Asian, lol, but I can't bring myself to root for Awkwafina's performance in The Farewell. She's fine, but a win would be too much.)

Best Picture, Drama: 1917
Best Picture, Comedy: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Actor, Drama: Joaquin Phoenix (I don't think they'll resist awarding the "biggest" piece of acting from 2019 mainstream cinema)
Actress, Drama: Scarlett Johansson (I think she'll win in the same vein as Huppert in 2016, but this time getting a frontrunner status)
Actor, Comedy: I have no idea. They could go with Egerton 'cause they like musical biopics (Malek) and are not hesitant to award young/young-ish studs (ATJ, Franco). They could go with Murphy, but also DiCaprio. I don't know.
Actress, Comedy: Awkwafina was a sure thing in early december, but now that Knives Out is one of the biggest box-office surprises of the year? Giving the Globe to Ana de Armas feels like the right place to reward a very popular, beloved movie.
Supporting actor: Brad Pitt
Supporting actress: Laura Dern
Director: Tarantino
Screenplay: Hm... Tarantino feels like a shoo-in, but I don't know... If it gets a Comedy BP win, a Director win and possibly DiCaprio win as well, giving it another prize feels like overkill and they might wanna spread the wealth. I think they could go for Marriage Story (to make-up for not giving it BD despite being the most nominated movie) or Parasite (that feels too big to be a FL winner only).
