With it picking up a lot of steam lately and with the Globe nomination and likely BAFTA nod, it's clear that the film is being watched and loved despite not being France's pick, which led me to wonder if it has an outside shot at any oscar nods (probably only cinematography, if anything, because that's such a weak/diffuse category this year and Claire Mathon's name has come up a few times).
But then I wondered, has that ever happened before? Where a foreign language film not eligible in the FLF category still gets nominated elsewhere? Really curious about that because it seems silly that a foreign film be completely off the table just for not being their country's submission to FLF but I can't think of any that did off the top of my head. On the other hand, MK2 did make a point to send out screeners.

After Deschanel's VERY random nod last year, I'd definitely say it's possible. Getting notices from some of the big splashy groups as well that might catch eyes of voters

Cinematography is very likely at this point. I'm actually predicting it.

Just off the top of my head, I'm sure there're other examples.

I think it's getting a Cinematography nod for sure. And who knows about that fifth directing spot? It's unlikely, sure, but I think it's wide open at this point.

The only chance it might have is for the cinematography. But I don't think it's a real chance...
