Let me where I am going right and wrong.
BEST PICTURE
1. Jojo Rabbit - Won the TIFF Best Picture award, nominated for Best Picture at the BFCA, Globe, and SAG awards.
2. The Irishman - National Board of Review and NY film critic winner. Nominated for Best Picture at the BFCA, Globe, and SAG awards.
3. Once Upon a Time -Nominated for Best Picture at the BFCA, Globe, and SAG awards.
4. Parasite - Runner-up at TIFF and LA Film critics Best Picture winner, nominated for Best Picture at the BFCA and SAG ensemble. No globe nomination for best drama due to silly Globe rules.
5. Marriage Story - Runner-up at TIFF, nominated for Best Picture at the BFCA and Globe awards.
6. Joker - Nominated for Best Picture at the BFCA and Globe awards. Phoenix is the front-runner to win Best Actor, and therefore his film gets Best Picture attention.
7. 1917 - Nominated for Best Picture at the BFCA and Globe awards. Scored Best Director nominations at the BFCA and Globe awards.
8. Bombshell - SAG ensemble nomination. Film is getting major buzz for Theron, Robbie and Kidman, especially for Theron and Robbie.
May make it in: Dolemite is My Name, Ford v. Ferrari, Knives Out, Little Women, The Two Popes, Rocketman, and Uncut Gems for scoring either a Globe or BFCA Best Picture nomination. Hustlers and Judy simply because one of their actresses scored BFCA, Globe, and SAG nominations.
At the moment, I have Jojo as #1. The Tiff winner has pretty much guarantee a Best Picture nominee for the past 11 years, and has shown to either pick the winner or pick the favorite to win. We had LLL and Three Billboards as the favorite to win, and then we had Green Book pulling out the "upset". Irishman and Once are pretty self-explanatory. I am putting Parasite #4 because of the foreign language handicap.
Also note: 1917 was curiously absent from the ACE awards.
