I still think so. I think it will appeal to the Academy(in particular the male voters). It’s the kind of studio film you rarely see nowadays and it seems like it’s considered an overall success. Though this could be one of those odd BP nominees that only has 1 or 2 other nominations. Most likely for editing, sound editing, and mixing.

Yeah, so far I'm predicting it for 5 nominations: Picture, Cinematography, Editing, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing. Obviously Bale is very much in the mix, so are some other tech categories like Production Design or maybe Original Score.

I think it will. Not only they genuinely loved it at screenings, they'd love to reward and encourage the success of this kind of movie.

On the cusp, but I personally think it misses. I think Bale misses to more passionate picks in Best Actor, and its tech haul won't quite be enough to see it over the hump.

Maybe.
I'm only sure about the top 7, and then there's a battle royale for the last one or two spots. If there's 9 films nominated this year, I feel that Little Women, Bombshell, or The Farewell have a good chance at one of the spots because other than Parasite, Jojo Rabbit, and Marriage Story, the lineup skews very male, and even in the 3 I mentioned, it's either only about 50/50 or still slanted towards the male character(s).
Then, Ford v Ferrari and The Two Popes seem to be battling it out for one of the spots.
Knives Out and Pain & Glory could also surprise somewhere in here, but I think they're slightly below the 5 that are fighting for the last one or two spots.

It's out. I still think Two Popes could pull ahead with the benefit of a screenplay nod and possibly a nom for Hopkins. Ford v Ferrari has no above-the-line purchase and hasn't gotten many BP mentions so far. 1917 is going to the BP-nominated tech juggernaut and I don't think there will be two of those.
Right now I'm predicting it for: Editing Sound Mixing / Editing Visual Effects and maaaaybe Cinematography
I could also see it snagging a nod for production design (their PDF presentation to the guild was stunning) but I'm not calling that yet.

I liked it a lot and would personally vote for it, but I don't see it. Seems like the kind of thing where Globes voters would be friendlier to it than Academy voters but it didn't even get in there. Has a shot at an Actor nod for Bale and will get some techs (if this doesn't win both sound awards they're crazy) but that's it.

Don't know, but it would be deserving in this field. I have problems with the movie, but it's probably the best film I've seen in theaters this year.

Loved the film. One of my favorites so far this year. As far as Best Picture, I am leaning yes, but we know officially once the PGA, DGA, and WGA awards come out.
SAG members nominated it for Best Actor (Bale) and Best Stunt. The Eddies nominated it for Best Film Editing in a Drama. I suspect it's going to get at least a PGA nomination and maybe for the DGA and WGA awards.
It will all depend on the number of nominees we see in the Best Picture category.

Was not a fan of the film, but I think it will definitely appeal to Oscar voters and I'm expecting it to overperform. So yeah right now I'm predicting a BP nom (and Bale is probably in, which is a shame since he'll take the place of someone way more deserving like De Niro or Banderas). The only thing that makes me second guess its chances is that the voting block to which this film caters probably also loves The Irishman and OUaTiH, likely moreso. But I still see it getting in.

If the nominees were 5, I'd say it would miss. But now I guess it will be in.
