He obviously blasts off into space at the end when he turns into the comic book joker (that's built into the premise) but for the first two acts Arthur absolutely feels like a real person. I've met people like that. down to the really loud laughing and dancing? You sure they weren't tripping balls

Phoenix based on my one watch of each.
Thing is, it's unlikely to change, as I know I'll watch Joker again, but doubt I'll ever see Marriage Story again.
These guys are my Top 2 of the year for now, and nothing would make me happier than to see two performances I love duke it out for the win, especially as I would be happy whoever won.
