I figured he would have support by critics groups, but I also thought that even if the industry wasn’t head over heels for the movie on a whole, he would still get in. It’s a competitive year granted, but I’m no longer predicting him.

everyone thought he was out for At Eternity's Gate too but AMPAS has proven how much they love him and The Lighthouse both had better reviews and was more widely seen/talked about. He's either 5th or 6th right now. Definitely not out.

He’s not a lock but the Academy clearly likes him and I don’t think he should be counted out yet. I think it’s possible he edges out Hopkins and Foxx, being nominated alongside Hanks, Pacino, Pesci, and Pitt.
