Goodfellas, Copland, Narc.
Thay's all the good films he's done and maybe one or two others I don't remember.
He's a good actor and his role in Goodfellas is iconic but that's all there is to it.

Unfortunate that he doesn't get enough buzz for "Marriage Story" and criminal that he was snubbed for many major awards for "Something Wild", "Narc" and "Goodfellas". His performance in "Unlawful Entry" is one of my favorites of its kind. He's one of those guys no matter where he shows up - I start to smile because I know no matter what the metarial is, he'll somehow add something more to it and elevate the material.
He had been in so many entertaining genre movies like "Phoenix", "Unforgettable", "Control" and "No Escape" that went under the radar. I like that he never phones it in. "Article 99" might be a mixed bag but man, is he terrific in that.

Dominick and Eugene has some of his most understated, and perceptive acting and in a lot of ways was a better film than the similar Rain Man - same year too.

I want a film solely about the lawyers of Marriage Story. They're all so good.

Viced - Have you seen Corinna, Corinna? Liotta is very good in an against-type role.

Top 10, no order really -
Narc Goodfellas Unlawful Entry Unforgettable Cop Land
Turbulence Dominick and Eugene Killing Them Softly Heartbreakers Something Wild
shout-out to his romantic side - Corrina Corrina where he's odd-coupled with Whoopi Goldberg and it sort of works! and also Article 99 a bad movie but he's pretty charming in his scenes with Kathy Baker. Funny you'd never picture him as a doctor but he's played that role and more-or-less pulled it off a few times (Unforgettable, Dominick/Eugene, Article 99).
Speaking of doctors, I just watched his Emmy-winning guest spot on S11-E6 of ER and it might be among his best work, just a really powerfully done and vulnerable perf. Side note - the ep opens with Liotta in a waiting room listening to Out of Time by the Stones and I thought "Ok, OUATIH" then remembered QT actually directed an episode of ER... ummmm!
So anyway, I love Liotta - I find him automatically intense, someone like James Woods has the same effect on me, and he's sometimes as go-for-broke as Cage, which is the highest of praise! He's not afraid to appear pathetic (Killing Them Softly, ER, etc) and he's skilled at finding a sympathetic line under extremely enraged characters. On a podcast last year, he said (a bit sadly) how he still doesn't think he's "made it" and that he has a lot more to do...... and I'm really rootin' for him.
Last note - Marriage Story likely will be his first Best Pic nominee since Goodfellas.

“Nora, I have to say your account of this marriage is taking place in an ALTERNATE REALITY!”
Great actor. Favorite role of his is definitely Goodfellas, and he’s my favorite performance in that whole film.
