www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/gary-oldman-star-espionage-drama-series-apple-1255013Surprised he isn't going for a mini-series instead over at Netflix, but this is still interesting. Oldman lacks TV at this point and could find great roles there now - his only TV credit this century is for a Friends guest spot - also his only Emmy nom. But don't forget he has that brilliant and tense perf in The Firm from '89. Even tho they're saying Drama, this might be a bit lighter fare with that writer...

Very interesting. Hope it has a Tinker Tailor-esque flavor to it.

Mattsby For a second I thought it were a TV version of his project Flying horse. 😰 Leaving aside The firm, he worked for a few British tv projects. I'd suggest you Meantime (Tim Roth and Alfred Molina in the cast too), and the episode for American tv Dead end for Delia.

Sounds like good news for Oldman. He's wasted so much of his time and talent in C-list films. Even some of the films that seem A-list on paper (ie The Laundromat) don't always work out. I can understand the addiction to being a "movie star", but when for whatever reason the material isn't coming your way that often, I think TV these days can do wonders for some of our best character actors (Foresr Whitaker, Vincent D'Onofrio and Giancarlo Esposito currently shining on Godfather Of Harlem, the type of meaty parts they can't consistently get as movie character actors any longer).
I'm actually beginning to worry for actors who make their bones coming up or being discovered on TV though. The tendency now to cast actors with movie fame in TV series may be hurting some lesser known actors who would once have gotten those shots. Would a Bryan Cranston be cast in Breaking Bad today, or would he be vetoed in favor of an established movie actor? Probably the latter.

He had stated that he'd like to live in a tropical island playing football ⚽ on the beach with his family if he had enough money.

I realise he's not trying to be Clooney or whatever. It's not the same grind as a regular TV show, where you may be stuck playing the same character for several years and the hours and commitment is much longer. As a movie actor, you can play a character, move on within a few weeks or months, and not be contracually obligated to do it for years on end. The relative freedom to pick and choose when you work in movies compared to episodic TV (which is closer to a 9 to 5) is addictive and one of the reasons being a film actor is so prized.

Premiering April 1 with the first two episodes, the other eps airing weekly. I'm pretty sure they've already filmed another six-ep batch for a "Season 2."

I'd prefer Oldman to finish the Karla trilogy, but I guess this will do.

Anyone been watching? I’ve found the first three episodes to be pretty good (haven’t watched the fourth yet). Not sure what to make of Oldman’s character yet but digging the start to this.

Gordon Ramsay as a spy? I'm game. You mean Oldman's chef d'oeuvre? I was an inch away from calling it Gordon Ramsay's Circus Nightmares, but I wasn't sure if people would get the Le Carre reference

Mick Jagger's original theme song for the series.
I've seen the 4 eps out..... underwhelming so far, very generic elements and oddly humorless even tho it's from a writer of Thick of It and Veep. Nobody standing out in the cast yet, not even Oldman who's asked to portray not much other than "odious."

Generic, yes but it's ridiculously entertaining and I love it. Oldman is so fun to watch and I love Jack Lowden. Not sure who I'm more jealous of tbh, him or Saoirse Ronan. 😋 I'm really looking forward to the next episodes.
