Fuck me, I read this just as he showed up in El Camino . Go easy, Max Cherry. One of the finest nominees the category ever saw.

Very strange..... I was just on the El Camino IMDb and clicked on his name and saw the death date and thought oh that's weird bc he's still alive. Then I found out. I love his debut movie Reflections in a Golden Eye where he doesn't do much but is effective and actually kinda mysteriously intense, and there's Medium Cool which is important..... never considered myself a fan, that is, until last week when I saw Alligator and I've just never liked him so much as there, as a straight-arrow detective with a touchy past, evading his uncertain placement at his precinct, stuck with the unlikely job of hunting a giant gator. And there's a whole receding-hair gimmick, an idea he came up with. For fans check it out. RIP

I think about Forster and Pam Grier in Jackie Brown on a daily basis.
RIP legend.

Alligator is a great little B monster movie, that I really adore, and Forster's a huge part of the reason why. RIP!!!

Fucking heartbreaking. His work in Jackie Brown is unquestionably an all-timer and I loved his Sheriff Truman. RIP legend.

This really hurts. His Max Cherry is one of the finest cinematic performances of all time and whenever he appeared in anything, he made it better. Goodbye to a beautiful actor.

Sad to hear. It’s always made me so happy that Robert Forster got an Oscar nomination for Jackie Brown. He’s wonderful in it but it’s very subtle and understated, not the kind of performance that usually gets nominated for Oscars because he doesn’t really have a flashy “Oscar scene” but he does an excellent job of embodying his character.

Has he ever given a weak performance? At least I've not seen it.
Not a fan of Jackie Brown, but he was tremendous and easily gave the best performance in that film and with that cast that says quite a lot.

Haven't seen many of his interviews but here's one from the 90s - on a hilarious ridiculous trailer-park set drinking beers? - Forster tells a great story about getting cast in Reflections in a Golden Eye and does a mean John Huston impression. That goes to 6:30.
The rest isn't necessary - he talks about his only directed movie a now very obscure detective comedy he did on a shoestring budget. And his daughter joins the show. For anyone interested, seems like such a likable guy to be around...
