I really want to see this film, but I'm unwell at the moment, so will probably stream it when it's released on video. I keep reading that this movie could be triggering for certain people. Is there any credence to that? Whatever "unwell" means, really hope you feel better soon. You've always been fair to me, even when you strongly disagreed with my opinion, and that's not something I can say about a lot of folks here. Sincerely wishing you a speedy recovery. 🙏👍

Imagine the old Oscar Buzz, with militant debates about Joker for four months over Oscar season. They're better off gone, yes?

I can’t tell if you’re reminiscing on a time where OB would have those sort of debates, or you’re in fact happy that those said debates are not as prevalent as once was. P.S. are you ever going to invite me to NY again? 🙄😋

Not ONCE have I said #MeToo is a lie or B.S. or anything like that. NOT.FUCKING.ONCE!! All I've said is that a lot of dishonest, self-righteous, opportunistic SJW social media fascists (like you) have distorted a lot of stories that clearly do NOT belong in the movement, and that that Faux "woke" bullshit is not #MeToo and is more like #MeCarthyism (i.e. witchhunts). Stand by that 100%! But in no way does that mean I think #MeToo is a lie. That's CLEAR AS DAY not the same thing. So, again, if you were talking about me, kindly FUCK OFF and go lie about someone else. 🖕

I really want to see this film, but I'm unwell at the moment, so will probably stream it when it's released on video. I keep reading that this movie could be triggering for certain people. Is there any credence to that? If you're depressed and want to watch something bright to cheer you up this obviously isn't it. I'd say it is less emotionally disturbing that the 70's stuff it riffs on like Taxi Driver or even The Dark Knight. People with specific life experiences could obviously be upset by any number of things, though.

Thought about not bothering with spoiler tags but might as well. I thought Dent having to listen while Rachel gets lit on fire, the young Batman impersonator crying on the video after the Joker captured him and was presumably going to kill him, and Gordon and his wife's reactions to Dent having a gun to their kids head were more disturbing than anything in Joker. It's obviously a matter of personal opinion. I think the thing all those TDK scenes have in common is that they're focused on the suffering of the victim, which I guess is what "gets" me more. Joker was obviously focused on The Joker as the lead character and most his acts of violence were quick.

Really enjoyed it. thinking a strong 7, maybe even an 8. Held back by an uneven script, but pretty much everything else is solid or better. Phoenix obviously elevates it a ton - one of the best performances of the decade imo. Also, sorta OT but I visited the iconic Joker Stairs earlier today, and it was a marvelous experience.

Couple SPOILERS.
¿¿¿
First film I've got off my ass to watch for my own personal enjoyment in a good few years. It didn't let me down. Phoenix was incredible, not that that was ever in doubt. Some of the shots in this movie were so beautifully executed too.
The first half I was thinking, its good but not worthy of the raves. But after Arthur reads his mothers file it really hit that point and never looked back. The climb was worth it.
There were only a couple issues I had that have probably been mentioned. Showing the Wayne's death scene again is just so boring at this point. Imply it, sure. No need to show the act yet again.
Also the 'reveal' that his neighbour was never there after the initial scene, and it was just in his head. They had to show us that she was never actually with him. But I think that was pretty damn clear with the way she reacted to him being in her apartment. Needless flashback.
Otherwise. Brilliant experience. 8/10.

Jesus Christ man. What the hell was that? What the actual fuck? Probably the shallowest look at any of the issues this hilariously derivative windbag tries to tackle that I've ever seen, and it’s difficult to express just how much I wish that was an exaggeration. On top of that, the whole movie is histrionic to the point of utter absurdity and doesn't even trust the audience to understand the nonsense the director clearly thought was cutting edge stuff, so a solid chunk of this thing’s insultingly vapid narrative is spent spelling it out over and over again. How the hell did Phoenix give one of the best leading performances this decade and also one of the absolute worst? I haven't been this baffled by a movie's praise since Whiplash. "I AM VERY ISOLATED AND HATE EVERYTHING AND I WISH I HAD A GIRLFRIEND AND MY THERAPIST IS USELESS (AND FOR SOME REASON ALSO VERY AGGRESSIVE WHEN TALKING TO ME...AND ALSO ACTS NOTHING LIKE AN ACTUAL THERAPIST WOULD, BUT IF THIS PART WAS WRITTEN MORE REALISTICALLY IT WOULD KINDA KILL THE EDGY NARRATIVE THAT EVERYTHING SUCKS AND IS AGAINST ME AND SO I DON'T HAVE TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY SITUATION) AND I ALSO GET MY ASS BEAT BY RANDOM PEOPLE ON THE REGULAR. NO ONE UNDERSTANDS, I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS SOCIETY! IT'S JOKER TIME!"
Won't give it a 1/10 because the scene where he starts dancing and says "Hey, what's your name?...Arthur...Hey Arthur, you're a good dancer!" was genuinely funny as fuck, no idea if it was intentional or not because the rest of the movie lacks self-awareness to a suffocating extent, but there's that.

That stairs scene has to be one of the most iconic scenes of the decade, whether you like the movie or not

But I think that was pretty damn clear with the way she reacted to him being in her apartment. Needless flashback. I wouldn't have even done the scene with him in her apartment. To me it was obvious from the get-go when she was like "Hey have you been following me? Do you want to go out?". Stuff like that is better when you just hint at it. Another thing is his stand up routine starts out disastrous and then the music comes in and suddenly everyone starts laughing. They were laying hints all through the movie that he was an "unreliable narrator" so to speak.
