Ones who are known for playing the 'good-guy' characters?
I looooovvveee John C.Reilly as your regular good guy that he's played in so many films. Magnolia, Chicago, Boogie Nights, The Lobster even Kong. He plays them so..nicely, isn't it? <3
Has he ever played a negative character? I'd love to see him do that.
Anyway, who's your favorite nice guy?

I'd have to say that although he has played villains (Calvary, Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Domhnall Gleeson is really great at playing good guys as well as characters with good intentions (Anna Karenina, About Time, The Revenant, Brooklyn, Ex Machina)

Around the early to mid '00s, I usually felt bad for whatever character James Marsden was playing in his film was because it seemed like he was typecast as the nice guy that gets dumped by the female protagonist (The Notebook, Superman Returns, Enchanted).

Definitely Mark Ruffalo. Patrick Wilson was good as the good guy in Fargo (TV).

Ed Harris is so for some reason seen as playing bad guys a lot but he actually played so many good guys and I just adore his characters in Apollo 13, Milk Money, Absolute Power, Buffalo Soldiers etc.
But I'm gonna have to go with Mark Ruffalo here in this context

He was the only thing keeping that film somewhat bearable.

He was the only thing keeping that film somewhat bearable. And he was sort of a baddie in State of Grace as well. Sorta? He was straight up villain there albeit hot as hell

It's easy to be boring playing nice guys, but Mark Ruffalo avoids that with his natural charm.
