flawless at 40. Mrs. Park can get it She only looks like this because of plastic surgeries. Korean celebrities all have the same nose and lips. Plastic surgery over there is way worse there then here. Those doctors must study voodoo or something cause I've never seen transformations like that before in my life. Kylie Jenner would be envious.

I wanted to resist the post-Oscar high but couldn't help it and rewatched this (after watching Bong's "Mother" for the first time too!). Please disregard whatever nonsense I might've written about the movie being overrated or its popularity being overblown - it's a great film Many of you said that a rewatch really benefitted the movie and boy did it ever! The only overpraised notion about the film remains the 'they built stuff!' thing but this is a publicity issue which doesn't have anything to do with the picture itself. It's fantastic! I was particularly struck by its complexities this time around - the thing that made me think its social commentary was obvious must've been the social media talking points about it because upon rewatch I saw that everything goes far beyond the 'system screws everybody' notion. The way Bong doesn't let his characters off the hook is downright inspiring. No boring heroes or victims here, you root for and against everybody. It's kind of a magical thing.

Bong playing with his Oscars like a child plays with toys is the most delightful thing. I love this man so much.

The beginning looked like the remake of the Italian movie Acqua e sapone, by Carlo Verdone, but Parasite turned into a tragedy. The lower class family could remind a more refined Brutti, sporchi e cattivi in a certain way. Their moral is, you can be gentle only if you are rich.
The scene with the Italian song works everywhere but in Italy, where the lyrics don't match the action at all and the audience is like, WTF. On a side note, the song was originally included in a movie with the same title, In ginocchio da te (1964).

I enjoyed the movie and it is upsetting that none of the actors scored a nod. I still have a hard time believing the academy actually watched the movie.

It's probably the most praised movie of the century amongst both critics and audience.. this was a hype machine, people saw this.

There should have been at least two: dad and original housekeeper.

There's a reasonable argument for all four women. Which, I think, is a major reason why the studio didn't push any of them for the prize. Song got hosed, but I think he would've actually gotten in if the season hadn't been so compressed. There's a reason the acting categories were fairly solidified early on and never really budged; if Parasite had been able to get some wiggle room in the last stretch with its SAG love, I think it could've gotten him in.

Whom do you consider the leading actress? I have issues in identifying her. I mean, the young daughter is clearly supporting, but I think the other 4 ladies could have quite equal screen time / role importance.

There are no leads (or if there is, it's Choi Woo-shik, the son). It's a true ensemble piece.

Jesus Christ. And he picked Gone With the Wind as an example?! LMAO!!! Of course he picked that one. He must have fond memories of this movie cause no way did he sit through a damn near four hour movie as an adult.

He couldn't get past the barrier called subtitles. Please. He's a stable genius. Had it just been one long tweet during the entire movie, then he would have been fine. The poor people are bad hombres. The rich people are fine people. Some illegal shows up and a beautiful chocolate cake gets ruin.

I saw Parasite at last. It was great! I was a bit worried whether I'd love it now it has won Oscars (could it ever be as good as I would hope?) but it was excellent. I didn't like it as much as 1917 or as much as The Handmaiden, both of which I adored and found a lot more deeply moving, however what I loved about Parasite was that it was actually proper GRRRRR Political by the end I and I was like YES! I would totally forego my favourite film or a film that's moved me more winning an Oscar for a film that's really got something big and fiery to express. And that's even before the significance of a Koren film winning best picture. As if anyone could begrudge Bong Joon-ho winning anyway, but I was glad I enjoyed it so much. Still wish we could give The Handmaiden the kind of honour and audience Parasite will receive, but hey - films aren't to compare, but to enjoy for what they are and I liked it a lot. I can't say I would utterly rave over it like many seem to here, but it was great.
