The legend is gone 5 years ago today...
Thoughts? Favorite films? Favorite performances?
Might try to give Awakenings a long overdue re-watch sometime today...

I'm not all that crazy about his Oscar win, but you can't deny that the man was a once-in-a-lifetime force to be reckoned with. He was always on and was capable of immense range.
Best thing he ever did, though, was that Critics' Choice speech when he lost to a tied vote between DDL and Nicholson in a three-person race.

I always liked this TV performance in Homicide: Life On The Street. Usually in drama he is good/great when he's controlled or you see him thinking but here he was coming apart at the seams and thinking a million things almost frantic and I thought he was kind of unforgettable.
All bouncy energy eating himself up:

Also a shout out to one of the funniest stand-up bits:

It is really hard for me to believe that it's been five years, oh my. He deserves more recognition for his performance in World's Greatest Dad. He really proves what a great actor he really was. I miss his talent.

One of his best Insomnia scenes - he has a few that are really great - here he is acting and framing the girl's teen boyfriend. Pacino is acting to make Williams act apparent and then eventually (purposely, shrewdly) gets himself thrown out so he can retrieve the gun.
The cat and mouse aspect of this film is what made it special - they had a great chemistry especially when Williams answers his interrogation questions quickly where he's almost daring Pacino to think as fast as him because this guy has been preparing for this at least since the murder......in some ways even before.
