Figured I would start this thread because there's a poster for the festival, and because someone has helpfully broken down what films should premiere here and at Venice.

Ford v Ferrari getting mostly strong word - noms for Sound, Editing, and maybe Bale now are in the discussion. Comin' in November, 20th Century Fox seems to be betting on that one instead of Ad Astra which has that iffy Sept date....
Uncut Gem screens tonight, the buzz is high... Safdies are bound to break out and this could be the one. Sandler role too a lot of charge and desperation - possible Oscar nom.

Rush got similar reactions to this and it still bombed at the box office and got shut out of the Oscars.

Even Tapley is saying there’s no way Bale’s Supporting. He is a bona fide Lead, even more so than Damon. I’m still not predicting him because the category is just so stacked, and it’s not technically a career best from him, he’s got a chance to be nominated. Sound is absolutely locked. Editing may be too.

I know it's too early to write it off, but not what I was expecting for The Aeronauts if it was supposed to be this big juggernaut that some were saying (not here of course) it was. Now Amazon's decision makes some sense; although, I think it would have at least made some money in the theaters.

Who needs Ford vs Ferrari when we have Johansson vs Zellwegger? Erivo must be sweating.

Judging by the reactions Ford v Ferrari is more of a crowd pleaser than Oscar bait and Bale stands out. Predicting some tech noms and possibly a nom for Bale.

Who needs Ford vs Ferrari when we have Johansson vs Zellwegger? Erivo must be sweating. lol, I first read that as "Erivo must be seething", probably both are true just going by her Twitter. (Disclaimer: not that she's not talented of course, but she's definitely very thirty for awards.) Seriously though Best Actress might be more competitive than I thought it was going to be. Although it doesn't seem like there's many possible nominees like last year, if it means that there's not a clear frontrunner who sweeps everything, I would be more than fine with that.

Those are the exciting first impressions, the rest so far praise Sandler but call the movie uncomfortable and overdone. Maybe no Oscars after all, but it’s only been one screening yet! Btw..... don’t forget Netflix has all territories except US so they’re also “behind” the movie....

The reactions I read about Motherless Brookyln sound like it's a NY-based Inherent Vice. Does anyone else get that?

I’m surprised we aren’t talking about Waves. It’s getting crazy good reviews.

Surprised no one has posted anything about the The Two Popes screening in this thread.
