Gus Kenworthy is looking shockingly like Jon-Erik Hexum, right? I'm sure that's the look Murphy was going for.

I actually can't believe I sat through that. It was really terrible. Still, I will watch the new Season like the dutiful idiot I am .

So the most erratic in quality TV show ever (probably) is back. I'm not going to lie, the above has the potential to be entertaining and a nice tribute to some joyous horror of the past...as long as they go full high camp (pun intended I guess). Last thing they need to do is take this shit seriously, and the trailer gives me hope that they wont.

Well one episode down and they've gone full camp, in a loving tribute to 80s & 70s horror...the references came thick and fast. I'm not gonna lie, this was great TV, but this is American Horror Story, so they'll ruin it soon. Strange thing is, this show usually starts blah, then gets good and then blows it. This might be the first time since the first two Seasons that it started great, so I'm quietly allowing myself to have (some) hope for whats to come. Shit to note...I liked Emma Roberts It was nice to see her not play an asshole for once. Perhaps that's her niche, god knows she needs one. I guess Cody Fern is still Ryan Murphy's twink of the moment. Matthew Morrison's boner Sometimes obvious is great. Leslie Grossman can do no wrong. Gus Kenworthy wasn't terrible and he's a full-on monet. Kevin Bacon shout-out . MVP: Emma Roberts

No, Paulson shrieking and blubbering?
I miss Bates, Lange and Bassett.

I don't know if anyone is watching this, but so far so good as far as I'm concerned. I'm four episodes in and episodes 2, 3 & 4 have been consistently good follow ups to the excellent opener. It do feel like it is missing something with most of the core stable of regulars not being there, but aside from that, it's genuinely fun and entertaining.

Yes, I liked that Murphy switched Billie Lourdes and Emma Roberts around by finally making the former the bad girl, but I feel Angelica Ross and Tara Karsian were chosen because Murphy couldn't get Adina Porter and Kathy Bates. Leslie Grossman is good too, but I also get the feeling that Sarah Paulson would have been her character if Paulson had agreed to come back. I am glad that Murphy was forced to switch it up, but this I don't want to praise him too much before the twist happens. Right now it's pretty good, and the big spoiler that I read during week two made it like it could be a cool concept, but AHS always has a way of letting me down, lol. I still watch it though just to see if how well it starts off before the usual inevitable crash, lol.

So episode five down, and the show continues to defy my expectations by not sucking yet.
I'm genuinely pleased, and based on how the episode ended, genuinely excited and stumped as to where it might go next.

I've really enjoyed it so far as well... but I'm not at all hopeful it's gonna maintain the same quality in the second half. Hope I'm wrong, but it feels like its about to go off the rails again...

That last episode felt like the finale,so I'm interested to see where this goes now,if it doesn't crash and burn like it usually does at the half way point.

Yeah, the fact that the whole first half happened over about 48 hours (aside from the flashbacks), did force it to keep itself tight and in check. Where it just left off after 5 leaves it open to endless directions and endless possibilities to blow it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though. They managed to pull of greatness with Asylum, and recently both Cult and Apocalypse held it together for the most part.

I know I'm a total cornball and I should probably be on mood stabilizers, but I got really emotional during the finale...

Well I caught up after falling three episodes behind and as the finale was coming, I thought I'd just wait so I could watch 6 - 9 back to back.
I am so pleased so say that for the first time since Asylum, AHS has given me a great Season of television. It was fun, funny, stupid, ridiculous and wildly entertaining from start to finish.
Call it a loveletter, call it a spoof or a pastiche, even call it a rip off; just don't call it bad or boring. This was really great TV and is the only thing in the AHS canon that comes anywhere near Asylum, even if it still trails by some way.

The ending was actually quite lovely, and probably the most emotional thing they've done since the touching ending they gave Sister Jude all those years ago.
