So I know some people might prefer Army of Darkness, and if you do then please say so below and make the choice in the poll anyway. I think on average though, the vast majority prefer one of the first two.
Personally, I love both of these films so much. I love the inventiveness and sheer grim horrificness to the first one, but then I love how they ratcheted things up in the second, and in particular the level of humour. I'm giving the second the vote, but damn it's close.

II for me, I mean it's impossible to guess what will happen next in that film..........and it's totally awesome.

II is the best. It takes the concept to the next level. There's no question what film is better. Evil Dead II is innovative stuff. It's not considered a major classic, but that's only because surrealism is a subinterest in films. There's Bunuelian surrealism and there's Evil Dead surrealism. It's just as innovative, but of course it's its own film.
The Evil Dead reminds me of Eraserhead. It kind of shows glimpses, but doesn't quite get there. Kind of like an early experimental film. Of course The Evil Dead doesn't suck, but that's another story.
Army of Darkness is quite good. At some parts, it's better than The Evil Dead. But there's also a generic comedy aspect to it, but also quite a lot of things that make it an Evil Dead film (like the miniatures in the fireplace)- and has its place as a cult classic.
I thought the first season (or maybe 2) of Ash vs Evil Dead might've been better than both The Evil Dead and Army of Darkness, but it fell off the cliff later on.

Evil Dead is fine, Evil Dead 2 is perfect. Army of Darkness should have won Campbell an Oscar.

II is much better. Although I'm not a real fan of them.

I agree with what you said. I think the first film is just amazing to behold, clear sign of a genuinely special talent making his mark on the world and sort of wowing you with just how he got it all done, but the second film is the clear titan of that trio for me. Horror comedy at its horrific peak, without tipping too much into stupidity the way Army of Darkness did.

Yeah, Army of Darkness is my favorite of the trilogy just because it's so absolutely bonkers and unique, but the whole trilogy is maybe my favorite trilogy after the Before series.
