Looks good. Can't believe Rooney is sixth billed and not even a with or an and. Has her stock really dropped that much? Don't think so. I think they just listed the ones after Cooper in alphabetical order. Jeez, I’m dumb. Makes way more sense.

Damm, this looks good. That Dafoe monologue alone sounds incredible. Also this looks like it could be a lock for set design. After the lackluster last year, 2021 is gonna be a friggin' fountain of great production design. We've got this, we've got Dune, The French Dispatch, West Side Story, The Last Duel, Macbeth - so many movies to eye-pop us with their sets!

Looks pretty great but the look of the film is not the feel of the book.......the feel of the book is a noir - this movie looks more like something like The Prestige - maybe that's not it either......but doesn't feel like a noir from that trailer - that plays as more horrific than I was expecting.........we'll see.......
The book has the suggestion that the circus is "like" a concentration camp and that "man or beast" is the key theme from the book so in those ways it's dead on point.

This just looks so gorgeous. And that cast. That's enough for me right now.

Meh. Cooper looks so out of place. None of what i saw made me go "This will be a strong BP contender for the win" or "Cooper will definitely get a nomination for this!". Had this locked and loaded didn’t ya?

The production design looks good, but that's never been a GDT weakness. I've been down on all of his films post-Blade 2 (though I haven't seen the Hellboys), so I remain skeptical. I thought The Shape of Water a legitimate abomination and one of the worst two or so BP/BD winners I've ever seen.

I'm not a fan of Cooper either (and would have preferred Leo by far) but in Cooper's defense , he didn't even utter a single word in that teaser trailer lol. This was a really well made & edited teaser trailer. It made you really curious about it and wanting to see more. I honestly am going to try my hardest to not view the full official trailer so I won't be spoiled seeing any key "money shots". Also if that wacky & weird Del Toro film about a mute cleaning lady having sex with the creature from the black lagoon can win Best Picture, I think this one can at least get a Best Picture nom. The Academy digs the hell out of the 3 Amigos.

Shape of Water took some of my will to live. I'll never trust Del Toro again... And this kinda has the same look when it shouldn't?

Could he at least say boo before he's written off.

Looks really good. The opening few seconds felt Tim Burtonish but I liked it.

I like GdT. He is one of the very few filmmakers who makes B movies (kinda) on an A scale. Not a fan of Copper but this looks stunning. Can't wait.

SoW is an unbelieavable PoS imo also - I think I called it the worst BP since A Beautiful Mind back then .........I used to get into the dumbest arguments about that movie on here - it's like some people like it, and they defend it passionately and that's fine........ we can still be friends and I can still hate Grinding Nemo - geesh (oh and the ending of Blackkklansman also - that blows too!) But I will say the book Nightmare Alley is so great - to me one of the great 20th century novels - and while I was gutted that he was doing it....... as this has gotten closer I've gotten more excited........I may be a sucker............if this is a botch .......I will have some expensive therapist sessions tbh

don't know what to make of it yet. Could it be another noir pastiche in the vein of Black Dahlia? (just asking questions ) In all seriousness, I could see this being a good time or I could see it being pretty annoying and uninteresting style over substance. Cooper doesn't inspire confidence and the setting is giving me American Horror Story PTSD (I don't know anything about the original story, geez I'm sorry) But it LOOKS gorgeous. Production design frontrunner probably and a cinematography nod is locked down for sure. Is this Dan Laustsen again? He could win this time...

hmmm honestly the more I watch that teaser the more "plastic" it starts to feel like 2010s Tim Burton.

Should I watch the original before I see this? I’ve never seen it, what would you’ll recommend?

I would have preferred DiCaprio but I'm not here for the Cooper hate. He should have won the Oscar for A Star is Born.

Damn was hoping for Collette to finally get her second nod. All comes down to how Gordon/del Toro readapt the text, but imo from the female roles, Toni's was the one who made an impression on me.
