The short that this is based on was trashed so hard on Letterboxd that I'm actually really curious to see if it's as ridiculous as it's being made out to be.

Yeaaahh, I read the synopsis of the short film awhile back, and I honestly couldn’t believe what I was reading. It’s the sort of thing that would make Green Book seem like an intelligent, progressive film about race. Not sure why the hell a feature length adaptation is getting made, but in all likelihood I will be totally avoiding it.

It was my least favorite of the short nominees, and by quite a distance. It was so painfully on-the-nose. Effectively shot and acted though it was, my eyes rolled out of their sockets by the time the ending came.

Soooooo I know nothing about the short, all I know is that's one hell of an exciting trailer and unless the movie gets absolutely panned I'll definitely be checking it out. It's not possible to be more on the nose than American History X and this looks like a revamping of that story.

also there seems to be a misunderstanding about this film's relationship to the short. A lot of the folks on letterboxd who reviewed the short seemed to be under the impression that this film was going to be a feature-length adaptation of that project and that's not the case. From what I read about the short it does sound pretty bad, but everyone needs to stop jumping to conclusions. This isn't going to the short blown up to a feature length runtime and it has solid early reviews. There's no reason to be expecting it to fail or to be making assumptions about its quality.

To be fair, it has the same title and Danielle Macdonald is in both, so it's easy to make that mistake.

Looks interesting enough. And I just wanted to say that Jamie Bell is a criminally underrated talent thats been in the game for quite some time (shout out to Billy Elliot!) Plus, he's been with Evan Rachel Wood and now Kate Mara. Respect.
I'll definitely give this one a shot.

Film actually looks decent and A24’s involvement is promising although I hated seeing “Oscar winner Guy Nattiv” onscreen.
That said, Jamie Bell does look pretty great, but I’m really excited to see Bill Camp (the guy playing the older neo-Nazi leader). I’ve been a huge fan of his since seeing The Night Of and it’s awesome seeing him continuing to get more prominent roles. Looks like it could mirror Stacy Keach in American History X.
I don’t know much about the real story and I’m sure elements will be dramatized but hopefully being bound by actual facts will prevent Nattiv from making a film as ludicrous as the short film.
