First off, a few days (Variety link) she said this-- "I’m for sure going to be acting a lot when I’m 70 and 80. I’m really excited about that, actually.” I think it's refreshing for an actor to say that, instead of lamenting aging or dourly worrying about roles (not that that isn't an issue). She makes other humble comments in the link about her directing path too.
Quick on her directing - from what I've seen there's room for improvement, I kinda like her Black Mirror ep, but her movies are iffy. Home for the Holidays imo would be fine if it wasn't so messily directed. Moving on!
I wanted to get a thread going bc I just did a triple feature: rewatch of Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane, Candleshoe, and the very underrated Foxes from 1980. All three movies, and performances, have completely different tones and textures to them. She's 12 following up Taxi Driver with Little Girl - movie dwindled a little, but her perf did not - which is like an unsettling stage drama. 13 letting loose with Candleshoe, a surprisingly good Disney pic, light and very funny, and then Foxes, 16 when it filmed in Dec '78, preceding the girl clique '80s movies, a nearly docu-realistic portrait of Los Angeles latchkey ennui and ironic autonomy, Jodie is its mature center and she's excellent. A two-time Oscar winner before turning 30 ( don't forget she was 27 when she started filming Silence of the Lambs). And though her career after 30 hasn't remotely inspired as much awe as what came before, she's proved her talents solid, sometimes underrated or daring - Nell, Panic Room, Inside Man, Carnage, Hotel Artemis, etc.
Anyway! Three questions --
1) She's among the very best child actors (let's say under 18?) ever, maybe the best - who else competes?
2) What do you think are her best performances?
--- do Silence and The Accused take the majority?
3) Most underrated?
--- has anyone seen her very low rated pulp movies Siesta and Catchfire, or the Chabrol (pacinoyes) - idk if I should check these out or run for the hills.
