I'm more intrigued by him doing a follow-up directorial effort. Lost River was flawed, but I think its biggest issue was that it felt like he wanted to do two movies at once. If he'd stuck to either one of the stories, be it a Jodorowsky-esque nightmare or a coming-of-age fable, and fleshed them out, I think they'd have been perfectly fine movies done individually, but stitched together, it didn't quite work as well. Still, I think he has a very strong visual aesthetic and certainly doesn't seem to be concerned with making mundane stories, so I want to see what more he can do behind the camera.

^^what Stephen said to answer, James Gray or just continue with Cianfrance forever I kinda hold out hope that he'll be in Refn's Too Old to Die Young, only to get whacked in the opening scene as kind of a nod to the intended opening to Once Upon a Time in the West (where Leone intended to have Eastwood/Wallach/Van Cleef killed by Bronson).

I think he and Lanthimos would get along like gangbusters.

Good question and some really good suggestions in here. I looked at his imdb page and he has nothing in the works right now (probably busy being a dad atm ) . I just hope he doesn't take another long break cause the world is a better place with more Gosling films!
I'll throw in a suggestion of him working with Jeff Nichols (Mud, Take Shelter), Jeremy Saulnier (Blue Ruin , Green Room) or S. Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk , Dragged Across Concrete) . I think any of those directors would get a great performance out of Gosling.

Jane Campion. He needs to fully engage with his eroticism.

I think he would be great in a Wes Anderson film.

Wouldn't mind seeing him take a role in the next Mad Max movie should it ever get off the ground...so obviously that makes my answer George Miller

Jim Jarmusch, if Adam Driver’s busy. This. Either to tap into his funny side or to give a subtle nuanced performance like Bill Murray in Broken Flowers.

Love the Wes Anderson suggestion . That would be dope and would showcase Gosling's comedic chops for sure.
Another suggestion thats probably a pipe dream would be working with David Fincher . Perhaps playing Eliot Ness in a film adaption of the graphic novel Torso . Hey, a boy can dream right?!

PTA would be a dream collab for me ... give him a Doc Sportello esque role and he'd knock it out of the park. Their two styles would mesh beautifully, I think. Love the suggestions of Mann, Wes, and Jarmusch, I'd pay good money for any of those. An obvious one that hasn't been mentioned yet: the Coens ... he's the perfect choice for their despondent dark comedies ... cast him as their next Llewyn Davis-type protagonist.
