He said that years ago at a reddit AMA, and I agree.

Number five for me but his top five dwarfs most directors.

Boogie Nights, Punch-Drunk Love, and Hard Eight are his only good films. PTA is a fraud. People talk about The Master like the entire film is the processing scene. Fuck off!

I disagree with him, but then that's the fun of film opinions.

Well, he's wrong. But it's one of his better ones.

I think BOOGIE NIGHTS is still his best film ever. Same here. Still can't believe he was only like 26 or 27 yrs old when he directed that!

He’s also said it’s hard for him to divorce the thoughts of the movies themselves from the experiences of making them so as he hinted in that article, I’m sure a lot of it comes from being the last and most extensive time he spent with PSH. Part of the whole incentive of that movie was to make a vehicle for him, I believe they developed it together in a similar way to DDL/Phantom Thread?

Boy, me and PTA sure do have a lot in common. We both used to think Magnolia was his best movie and now we go with The Master. Good taste, Paul
