I thought it was comfortably better than Chazelle's two acclaimed films.

Gallagher was MVP.

The last act doesn't quite work for me, but up until then it was a claustrophobic and unsettling little film. Great performances -- Goodman especially was a blast. It didn't hold up as much on the rewatch, but I think it's effective.

It didn't hold up as much on the rewatch, but I think it's effective. The second time I saw it, it didn't hold up either, but I think I was watching it with the wrong group as it went back up immensely on my third go when I watched it alone.

Chazelle was like one of three credited writers, though, and was probably brought in to do last minute rewrites, anyway given that he doesn't have a "story by credit". Hard to say what he wrote.
The last act doesn't work as well as the rest, but I still think it's a pretty tense thriller. Goodman is very chilling.

I thought Winstead was great in this. Probably one of my favorite performances of hers.

Everything leading up to the third act is well done, too bad it majorly fucks the rest up.

The part where she kills the alien is too much, but the bunker parts are excellent and the scenes right when she leaves add enough tension and give you enough to not make it necessary to actually have an action ending. It would have been better if it killed her or ended abruptly when she saw it land.

This film is not perfect though just in general great in all aspects. If the ending was just shortened then this film would be much better.

I can't for the life of me figure out why people like it, but Gallagher was very good. He is so underrated.

The last act is what put it over the top to being a 10 for me. The first 2/3 of the film are incredible, the performances are all tops, the techs are spectacular, and that ending just seals the deal for me. A masterwork of modern film.

I thought it was a poor man's Misery, until the ending which was stupid. Goodman was great though, he's really good as a villain and should get more of those roles.

Don't have a lot to say that hasn't been said by everyone else, but I honestly think it's worth watching just for the trio of performances.

I guess I'm one of the few who didn't dislike the ending. It's a pretty big change in mood from the first two thirds but I enjoyed it. Plus, Mary Elizabeth Winstead nails the heroine aspect of it all too.
