The eligibility period will be for the first theatrical release in the film's country (or one of its countries) or origin. Look on IMDb for that information. TV movies are eligible. So here's the thing, gang: there is no reason why people should be turning in ballots before mid-April at the earliest. There is a lot of stuff out there that haven't gotten proper releases, and rushing ballots in the wake of Oscar fever is just asking for quality gems to be ignored in favor of what got the loudest buzz.
I've seen 147 films released in 2018, and I've got about 20 more to go on my to-watch list, but I am always going to be game to watch anything people recommend. So let's make this year's AMARAs something special. Pay attention to the FYCs, recommend your own, and keep your favo(u)rites in the forefront of discussion. 2018 was an amazing year for cinema, but people seem to think otherwise because of what the Academy went with. Let's do better.

will write up a full list of recs and get to all that shit later. Like Stephen said, there's no reason why anyone should submit anything if there's a relevant film you've missed, and some stuff isn't even available yet. Hold those ballots people. As for myself there's probably something like 15 or 20 that I still need to see. but please please please watch Support the Girls I'm gonna be just as annoying as Ryan_MYeah was about About Elly

The only movie from my watchlist I haven't seen yet is The Front Runner. What are the hidden gems from 2018 I should see but probably haven't yet? And what are we gonna do about The Favourite ladies?

Some FYCs. All of these are films I just hope people watch generally (omitting some of my favorites that I know people will most likely see and/or nominate):
Blindspotting. Thoroughbreds. Thunder Road. Searching. The Guilty. Burning. Support the Girls. Mandy. Shoplifters. Puzzle. Minding the Gap. Three Identical Strangers. Overlord. Hearts Beat Loud (if only for the incredible soundtrack please). The Night Comes for Us (if only for the incredible choreography please).
And of course, I'm sure they'll make it just fine, but please Hereditary and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse for the screenplay categories as well as FYC in all categories.

FYC:
BIRDS OF PASSAGE
In any category you wish (particularly excellent cinematography and sound work), but especially pushing it for Best Foreign Language Film. Without a doubt one of the best non-U.S. films of the year.

They're all lead. Presto! Solved. I will definitely be submitting Colman as Supporting. I think they're all lead myself but I'll adjust my own ballot depending on how the results of the lead vs. supporting vote. I think that's the fairest way to go and it ensures consistency. Imagine if she got enough votes to be nominated in both categories.
