It is pure and heartwarming and hysterical and devastating and swelled my heart more than most shows have in quite some time. Once you look past the absurdity, the show and the performers just give it to you raw, real, and so tender and honest. I adore this show. It’s been one of the highlights of my year. I shed real ass tears during certain moments of this show, sympathetically and empathetically. It’s like Eighth Grade but an entire series and exploring different territories regarding racism, exploring your body, first relationships, sharing your space with your friends, and divorce. While this show is unexpectedly an emotional sucker punch, I scream laughed a few times as well. It’s so so terrific and if you aren’t watching, please do. Please please do. Maya Erskine is an absolute star with fearless comic chops while Anna Konkle is a revelation (IMO giving the most authentically youthful performance of the two and giving the most powerfully resonant close ups of innocence and vulnerability). I cannot praise this show enough. The Emmys be damned when they ignore this show.
