Hawke is not the kind of actor to drive a story, ever.
He's like what 50? - he is what he is by now. He's a better react-or and that's why First Reformed worked so well (male lead performance of the year imo) - because everything played on him rather than him playing on it .........I know he thinks he is a much more major actor than that but I dunno.......I'd need to see some evidence but in general while I admire his ambition, he's more a modern version of James Garner who you know, had a very long, likable and fine career and never once thought of himself as the guy who would set off the story that Hawke is playing here.
