Elswit didn’t have great things to say about their working relationship: “God, I don’t know what it is anymore,” he said. “It’s like a bad married couple. Unpleasant.”

Asked whether he could see them collaborating again, Elswit didn’t sound optimistic. “I don’t know. Probably not. You know, it depends on how he feels. I would do it again…I didn’t enjoy myself on ‘Inherent Vice’…It was a combination of me and Paul just not getting along, and I can be as immature as him.”

Damn. That's kind of a shame but for some reason I thought it was sorta going in this direction especially when PTA decided to do "Phantom Thread" himself with his little team. Oh well. I actually think Elswit isn't particularly interesting without PTA's vision - he's clearly a cinematographer who adapts to his directors as opposed to having a signature of his/her own like Storaro or Kaminski. So yeah, now I'm excited for where PTA is gonna go with his DPs next. Or maybe he'll do it himself again.
