Looks considerably less bad than I expected so that's at least something. The first one was awful and a total missed opportunity and that song...

I'm surprised by how epic looking it apparently seems. Good stuff.

The first one was a missed opportunity that tackled some interesting ground, but it needed to be three hours long to actually develop its good ideas into a story that didn't feel half-assed. It feels like they took the easy route of simple metaphors and simple villains after starting a production much more nuanced.
The songs were... hit and miss. When they hit (Do You Wanna Build a Snowman) they were some of the best stuff Disney had ever done. When they missed (Let It Go, that troll song), they... were very, very, vomit-inducingly horrible.
So... I don't know. I'm hoping the sequel is good. This teaser is good. But Disney teasers never have anything to do with the actual movie, so I'm suspending early judgment.

Y’all need Jesus.
“What if Frozen were Brave” is the vibe I’m getting.

Okay, I’ve had some time to digest it. Honestly, this made me less excited for it.
Yes, it looks beautiful, but the epicness they’re trying to paste on feels incompatible with the original film. The original Frozen was a simple, but effective animated musical. It wasn’t some Tolkien-esque odyssey that looks detached from the first (this is why I’m wondering *how* the original was a missed a opportunity), and might make the songs (y’know, what’s supposed to be the main draw of a musical) feel out of place.
I’d honestly be more excited if this were its own original IP, like some post-Brave epic fantasy, instead of trying to bolt on these established characters. This looks more How to Train Your Dragon than Frozen.

It wasn’t some Tolkien-esque odyssey that looks detached from the first (this is why I’m wondering *how* the original was a missed a opportunity), and might make the songs (y’know, what’s supposed to be the main draw of a musical) feel out of place. It's been a little while since I've seen the movie, so I can't be very specific. The way I saw it was as a story of guilt and despair, kinship and joy between the two sisters that got swallowed up by the songs and by extraneous material. And the extraneous material wasn't necessarily bad: the stuff with Hans and Elsa's banishment (heck, even the trolls!) would have had a lot to say about the film's characters as people who have lost their place in the world and are desperate to find something to believe in. Anna chooses a prince, Else chooses banishment, Olaf chooses death to spare everyone else his existence (I wish). And then the story twists all of that, makes their choices hurt, makes them cling to what's really important instead of their own insecurities and fears that made them act in ways that harmed everyone. All of that was in the movie somewhere. But it all got overshadowed by surface level songwriting and twists. I'm not saying that the movie had to be some grimdark fantasy movie. I think it had a great sense of humor, actually (although it needed to be toned down a little bit). I think the problem is that it was too short to really do everything that I felt it had the promise to do. It could have been on par with Wicked. Instead, we got the theme park version of that story, with only hints to the complexity.

I have a bit of a love-hate relationship for the first movie. It was somewhat decent as a movie (great animation, score, and all) but it was also full of plot holes, some missed opportunities, hit-and-miss songs (I somewhat pretty much share Martin's exact sentiments about the songs. 'Let it Go' isn't a bad song imo, but it is somewhat unremarkable and terribly overhyped to death), uneven format for the songs, and a weak 'villain'. But I do liked most of the cast performances. This is an alright teaser. So we could probably expect this to delve into some kind of epic (with possibly another new character?). I can't really say that I'm all too crazy for this sequel though (at least not yet).

New trailer:
I’m still not sure about them pushing it as an epic fantasy. How are you going to fit songs into this?

Maybe this will be less of a musical and will more heavily lean into the "fantasy adventure" vibe as we can see from the trailer. This looks like an Empire Strikes Back-esque darker sequel.

Still don’t know how you’re fitting songs in here, but it looks epic. In a way that really makes it seem like they’re aping HTTYD, but epic nonetheless.

pretty cool trailer but I have no stock in this franchise. Maybe I'll watch it five years from now just randomly.
