I was trying to place Aldis Hodge in my mind for the longest time -- I've seen that guy, where do I know him from? And yes, I've seen a bulk of films and shows he's in, but there was one role that just kept snagging in my head and I couldn't shake it loose . . . until now. He's the guy who tries to rob the donut shop in The Ladykillers.

I had a similar revelation recently where I learned that the kid who provided young Simba's singing voice in The Lion King is Marlon Wayans' buddy that works with him at the casino in The Ladykillers. I'm going to start assuming anyone that seems vaguely familiar to me that I can't place was probably in The Ladykillers.

Anyone check this out? I wasn’t too enamored with the pilot but I’m definitely willing to give it a few episodes to see if it builds on its strengths and finds its groove. Plus, Kevin Bacon.

shit's pretty generic/"seen it all before". sick of boston cops/FBI/crime shit in general.

Haven't checked this out yet. The reviews are good. Not great but good. I'll give it a chance (meaning, I'll watch the pilot before deciding if I carry on).

I’ve been mostly enjoying this so far. It doesn’t add a ton new to the Boston crime drama genre but Bacon, Hodge, Tucker, and O’Brien are all pretty good. Some of the politics in law enforcement issues as well as showing the POV of criminals feel a bit reminiscent of The Wire. Of course, as a fan of Boston crime dramas and The Wire, I might be a bit more tailored towards this than other people.
That said, there’s one scene in episode 2 that’s pretty bad (and has no direct plot significance as far as I can see). Aldis Hodge is at a predominately black church for the funeral of a drug dealer and the priest giving the eulogy (Seth Gilliam) gives a speech about black-on-Black crime and how their community must take efforts to prevent it. Then a black guy runs into the church screaming for help and is gunned down by another black guy...literally right after the priest’s “black on black crime” speech. It just felt really forced and unsubtle.
