Worst. Awards. Season. Ever. Are the members so blinded by their love of Freddie Mercury and Queen that they're just giving away awards to Boremian Crapsody while shutting out stuff like First Man and If Beale Street Could Talk?

Any decent editor would've just scrapped Bohemian Rhapsody out of existence. Godawful winner. What, am I gonna have to root for goddamn Vice at the Oscars now? Jesus, what a mess of an awards season.

I feel like I think this every awards season like I know I definitely did last year when all the acting awards became so predictable early on, but this year I really mean it. I'm fine taking predicable winners over awful Best Picture nominees. I didn't realize how well I had it before this season. Sure there was always at least one Best Picture nominee that I didn't think was worthy of the nomination, but never 3. Nor as there been a season where the worst nominees could end up winning the most awards of any of the nominees ( Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody) while the best of the nominees, imo, potentially go without winning anything or just one award ( BlacKkKlansman, The Favourite, A Star Is Born). Only Roma might win more than 3, but it could also win just 3, and lose Best Picture.

The Favourite got one hell of a boost here. I still think Vice has the edge at the Oscars, but if The Favourite wins Editing at BAFTA, it could be a huge threat for this. Combine that with a potential Screenplay win, a strong shot at either Costumes/Production Design, and maybe -- just maybe -- one of the acting wins, and all of a sudden, it looks like it could be stronger for that eventual BP title. Not predicting it, but just saying, it just got some life at a crucial junction of the race.
It should be noted that the guilds have almost zero overlap thus far with one another. Green Book took PGA, Black Panther SAG Ensemble, Bohemian Rhapsody/The Favourite with ACE, and barring a shock, Roma at DGA.

You're not going to give Bohemian Rhapsody any praise here? Vice didn't win the Eddie or the Critics Choice, and you STILL think it has the lead? Come on now. Unless Vice wins the BAFTA, it's pretty dead in the water. It's more likely The Favourite or Bohemian Rhapsody will take the Oscar.

Obviously Bohemian Rhapsody got a boost, but it also didn't beat the presumed two bigger threats in Green Book and Vice directly. The Favourite did, which pushes it up substantially as a threat. What Bohemian did was ensure BlacKkKlansman couldn't get a foothold. The Academy really liked Vice, so I'd say it's still a threat regardless of what wins ACE or BAFTA. It just would've locked it up if he won those two.

I'm thinking Vice gets shut out at the Oscars. I think it could now except for maybe make-up and hair. It just goes to show that Phase II is a completely different beast than Phase I. I'm sure that Vice had some passionate fans who ranked it #1 in several categories, but I could also see namechecking going on in Supporting Actress and Supporting Actor, so a lot of #2 and #3 votes for Adams and Rockwell. With directing, editing, and screenplay, there was goodwill left over from The Big Short, and I guess Vice would have the most directing and editing which sometimes people mistake for best directing and editing. Plus with screenplay I think it's A24's fault that they dropped the ball compared to the last few years. They did get First Reformed in Original Screenplay, but Hawke missed despite winning the trifecta. Collette only got a Critics' Choice nomination despite being a critics' favorite as well. Then Eighth Grade got completely shut out despite having Scott Rudin as a producer and doing so well with the Gotham Awards and regional awards.

I remember talking myself into believing Fury Road and Grand Budapest has shots using similar reasoning and hope.

If The Favourite gets shut out, it won't affect me on a personal or psychological level. This is just for fun, man. I don't take it seriously and my psychological health doesn't depend on whether a film does well at the Oscars or not.

But while we are on the topic I don’t really think number of Oscars won really effects the eventual best picture winner much anymore. See Gravity, La La Land, Fury Road, Grand Budapest, life of Pi, Hugo. The winner nowadays usually has like 2 or 3 other wins.
