BEST EDITED FEATURE FILM (DRAMA):
Barry Alexander Brown - BlacKkKlansman John Ottman - Bohemian Rhapsody Tom Cross - First Man Alfonso Cuarón & Adam Gough - Roma Jay Cassidy - A Star is Born
BEST EDITED FEATURE FILM (COMEDY):
Myron Kerstein - Crazy Rich Asians Dirk Westervelt, Craig Alpert, Elísabet Ronaldsdottir - Deadpool 2 Yorgos Mavropsaridis - The Favourite Patrick J. Don Vito - Green Book Hank Corwin - Vice
Statistically, 68% of the time one of the ACE winners goes on to Best Film Editing at the Oscars. Since 1999, when they split up the ACE awards into drama and comedy, we have seen a 14/19 Oscar match or 73%.
All of the EDDIE Drama winners also scored Oscar nominations for editing.
On the drama side, I would rank them:
1. John Ottman - Nominated for the Oscar and BAFTA, and had to deal with the director conflict. 2. Barry Alexander Brown - Nominated for the Oscar. 3. Cuaron/Gough - Best Picture nominee and Satellite winner 4. Jay Cassidy - Best Picture nominee. 5. Tom Cross - Won the Critics Choice
On the comedy side, I would rank them:
1. Hank Corwin - Nominated for Critics Choice, BAFTA, and Oscar 2. Yorgos Mavropsaridis - Ditto 3. Patrick J. Don Vito - Oscar nominee and Best Picture nominee. 4. CRA and DP2 - Here for the booze.
I am going to give Corwin the slight edge against Mavropsaridis because of the flashier nature of McKay's film.
Who do you got?
Drama - Ottman vs. Brown Comedy - Corwin vs. Mavropsaridis vs. Vito

Drama Probably Bohemian Rhapsody, but I hope BlacKkKlansman since it's the only other one that's nominated for Best Picture.
Comedy I think Vice wins easily because of the amount of editing, not because it's the best, but I don't think it will matter in the end.

Why First Man? It's not up for the Oscar.

The editing in Bohemian Rhapsody is atrocious. I hope it doesn't win.
I think First Man still has a big chance, and maybe the guild will try to react to Tom Cross's Oscar snub.

Why First Man? It's not up for the Oscar. Emily Blunt says hi. Tom Cross has respect, it's flashy work, and it's not in direct competition with the presumed frontrunner in the Editing race ( Vice). First Man has a shot.

On a side-note, you calling it BH makes me think of King of the Hill: "Dad, this isn't right. If you call him Good Hank, it's gonna make it sound like I'm Bad Hank." "Well, you burnt my burgers, didn't you, B.H.?!?"

You implied that you believe Cross is going to win by pointing to Emily Blunt. Who do you think is winning the ACE awards? That's the focal point.

You implied that you believe Cross is going to win by pointing to Emily Blunt. Who do you think is winning the ACE awards? That's the focal point. I was pointing out that someone could easily win a guild prize even if they weren't nominated for an Oscar by mentioning Emily Blunt as an example. If it can happen at one guild, it can definitely happen at another. I haven't given thought to what ACE is going to do. Vice seems likely (they rewarded Corwin here in 2015), and I'm probably favoring BlacKkKlansman in Drama because it has flashy editing (montages galore!), but I wouldn't count out any of them. I feel the eventual winner in the Oscar category will be one of the Comedy nominees anyway ( Vice is my projected winner, Green Book would definitely be validated by an Editing win if it's going to be a threat for Picture, and The Favourite could get a nice late-surge peak thanks to BAFTA if it wins there). It would not surprise me at all if the guild rallies to Tom Cross's side if they thought First Man deserved the prize.

Why First Man? It's not up for the Oscar. cause it appeared to be frontrunner for period and it didn't happen. I thought maybe the snub would cause them to award it here.
