Why does it need to be a musical?

Low-key looking forward to the inevitable controversy when they announce that like, Maika Monroe is gonna play Esmeralda. It's so bad it goes past being good and then comes back to being bad again.

Why does it need to be a musical? Because the music in the original is amazing.

Why does it need to be a musical? Because the music in the original is amazing. It'll mean more troubles in finding someone who can act and sing, looks beautiful like Esmeralda or can pass for a hunchback.

This is the ONE live-action Disney remake I wanted to see.
But my dream casting Alan Rickman is no longer with us, so he can’t play Frollo.
And they NEED to take some inspiration from the stage show. And I draw the line at gargoyle sidekicks.

I hope they do it justice and perform the whole thing in French.

This is the only Disney musical that calls for a live action remake. The original had some of the greatest music ever put on film, but it was damaged by Disney smoothing away the darkness that is inherent in this story. If they actually went full out, gave this a PG-13 or even an R rating, and let the horror take center stage... I would be so there, girlfriend.

I love the original but this is one I was actually thinking would benefit from the Live Action remakes, I hope they erase the gargoyles from the picture and Quasimodo is not CGI

They made John Hurt look like the Elephant man 40 years ago they can make anybody into a hunchback. Broadway and the music industry are full of pretty people who can sing. Or just look at the cast of every movie musical ever.

Or just look at the cast of every movie musical ever. Patrick Page. He has a Broadway career, and I've seen him in a couple of Shakespeare productions (as the title role in Coriolanus and as Prospero in The Tempest. He will be playing Hades in the upcoming Broadway adaptation of Anais Mitchell's Hadestown, and I've heard snippets of him singing. He could do a good Frollo. And that's just one guy off the top of my head, from someone who has never been to New York and has little knowledge of the "best" singers in theater.

Since we know we're going to get a couple of these every year, I was sort of hoping they'd do Bambi next since the minimal dialogue and emphasis on nature could make it an interesting thing to adapt especially if they got a good director. I thought there was a shot since they were doing so many animal ones lately. Oh well, maybe later.

I thought there was a shot since they were doing so many animal ones lately. Oh well, maybe later. I could see it, but if they’re gonna do that, I’d prefer they have no dialogue at all, let it just play out like some nature documentary. But I don’t see them being able to commit to that. But then again, if they’re going to remake anything, make it the Pete’s Dragons that can be improved and take drastic liberties. Or draw from darker source material, like I was hoping they’d do for Hunchback with the stage show.

Why does it need to be a musical? Victor Hugo is always better as a musical. Honestly, between Les Mis and Hunchback, it’s the ideal format for his stories.

Yes, I would love that, but that's probably too big a risk for Disney these days.
