It is a huge blow, but I don't think its game over for him just yet. I don't think Adam McKay and potentially Farrelly are safe, so maybe he can knock one of them out. I mean, PTA got in last year without DGA and before him Mel Gibson. At the very least, he gets a writing nomination. I really hope Kendrick, SZA and Coogler are the only ones nominated. Jordan has no chance now Jordan ABSOLUTELY has a chance. Chalamet's film is tiny AS FUCK, and has zero buzz, so that fifth slot could go several ways. Ali, Driver, Elliot, and Grant are close to locks, imo (don't give a shit about Elliot missing on the GG, cuz clearly they didn't care for the film), but 3 or 4 actors could take the fifth. Jordan has as good a shot as Chalamet or Sam Rockwell.

Really really bummed by Cooglar missing out on here. It's both the Superhero movie and poc problem combined ...

Replace McKay with one of Coogler/Jenkins/Lathimos, and I think we have the Oscar line-up. Though it very well could be this same 5, I think VICE is too divisive compared to those other 3. Still think it makes the BP line-up, and McKay gets in for script, but don't think Directing.

DGA just starting giving black people nods anyway. In addition, DGA didn't even give Ryan a first time nod for Fruitvale Station. That's pretty F up.

Vice's direction is the worst aspect of the film. But by all means give him a nod of Chazelle, Jenkins, Coogler, and Lanthimos. Pretty sure he was being sarcastic.

Egoistic vanity? The movie had amazing direction. That Roy Orbison scene and *that scene* are proofs of it To quote from my review on it: No

Don't mind me. Still, at least BAFTA is a step in the right direction, even if I would've swapped Cooper for Ramsay.

Think she can pull a Bennett Miller? I doubt it, but who knows with this year? How about a nomination for Pawlikowski? All of a sudden, we have 2 directors who directed foreign language films competing? Has that ever happened?

Bergman and Wertmuller in 1976, off the top of my head. I don't think Pawlikowski's out of it by any means ( Cold War's got muscle outside of foreign language film), but I will always bet on the Academy going more basic (re: Farrelly, McKay). Lanthimos will probably be their most avant-garde pick.

I'm still reeling from these godawful nominations. What a disgrace. Cooper is a pretty damn undeserving choice but McKay and Farrelly were both horrendous and have no business being nominated for directing anywhere but the Razzies. This line-up better not repeat at the Oscars.
