She had this look of shock and disgust. Her mouth was wide open. It was really unbecoming. We have to remember that this is a woman who said old people have no right to be in The Academy. She wants to change who they choose, and why. People can have their extreme opinions if they want, but she has a job that is she is suppose to do. She is clearly not the right person for it. |

I say yes because I can't stand her.  Her response to Oscars So White was to insult the the voting body and behave in an unprofessional, childish, Trumpy way, instead of pointing fingers at the real problems: the industry banking entirely on white stars (except in the safe "historical" films, and even those usually throw in white people as the true stars) instead of colorblind casting and halfway decent scripts. Should she resign over the envelope crap? Nah, I don't think she had anything to do with that. |

how did she behave when Affleck won? this is a woman who said old people have no right to be in The Academy. um. no she didnt. what youre trying to insinuate is the rare occasion that an "old" person's voting privileges are revoked for not having been: a) active at least once a decade for 3 decades or b) nominated for an oscar the only way an "old" person is kicked out is if lets say they are invited to be in the academy at the age of 60. and they never work again. at age 70 their voting status is revoked. i dont see why anyone would have a problem with that. youre not contributing anything to the medium. |

But those things are either completely harmless or not her fault at all. Mispronouncing people's names is a bad look, but far from the end of the world (if that were the case, people like Michael Douglas and Idris Elba should be banned from presenting again), and it's not like we didn't all have a laugh at Dick Poop. I'm not sure how the whole Alone Yet Not Alone debacle went down, but so far I have no reason to believe she did anything wrong (and we just saw it happen again this year with one of the 13 Hours nominees with zero repercussions). And this year's BP disaster is definitely not her fault, it's PWC's. There was nothing she or any other director could've done. |

I agree that the rule voters should be active is a good one. They should also have some sort of rule that would require the voters to watch everything that was nominated. I don't know how they would impose it but I was shocked when I was reading those Honest Ballots and these guys straight up admitted they didn't watch some of the nominees. How can they make an informed decision when they didn't watch 2 or 3 nominated things in the category?  |

I felt she hyped up the #oscarsowhite controversy. Unlike the Emmys, Golden Globes and the Tonys, with more acting nominations overall, the Academy is limited to just 20, as it doesn't divide between Drama and Musical/Comedy. Perhaps a calmer tone at the time would have been better, but of course she would have been criticized regardless. Once you get, say, to 3 or 4 years of all White nominees, yes, an issue starts to arise. It gets down to what's being produced in Hollywood any given year. Switch to 2016, you get "Moonlight" and "Fences" and "Lion", and you get more nominations for POC. We can have a discussion of what the movie industry greenlights to get made, sure. A lot of it will be from the past history of the USA, or set in certain regions of the USA, as well as product from the UK and the rest of Europe, with White majority populations, so most of the nominees will continue to be White actors much of the time, that's just the demographics of the Western World.
