Ike Reilly just played this on his Facebook live show with his sons and just.... who wouldn't like this song? It's so good and especially moving hearing it live here. EDIT - also does a kickass "Bring it on home to me" cover, one of my fav songs, and his son Shane? performs a really really great original song. pacinoyes

White Stripes is so fucking boring to me. I tried to listen to those early albums years ago and couldn't get into them then, when I actually enjoyed rock. Now it''s even harder. I just listened to De Stijl and Elephant in close succession and I got nothing out of the experience. Rock is so boring to me now. It has been for awhile I guess because I couldn't get into Black Keys or Racenteurs back in the day either (so maybe it's just garage/blues rock?). Anyways... that's my wildly unpopular hot-take of the day.

decided to listen to Fear Inoculum again to see if I was missing anything jesus fuck it's still so boring. no heart and soul, no intensity, just long instrumental passages that build and build and build to nowhere (and when do do build to something in the case of "Pneuma" it's just waaaay little too late). I love every single other Tool album to varying degrees but most of those songs have hooks and/or aggression, even the longer ones, and the instrumentals evolve, they don't just repeat like so many of the passages on this album. "Descending" is one exception vocally but Keenan's vocals on that track, while definitely a respite on this sonic desert of a record, are just par the course for basically every other Tool song in existence. "Descending" would be an average track on any other of their records, but it'd actually be a boring one because most of its 13-minute runtime is instrumental (and not very interesting instrumental--feels like warmed over leftovers of Tool's basic sound and chord progressions). There isn't a single track on this album, not a single one, that stands out in Tool's canon. It feels obligatory, unfinished, and boring. I hate it.

obsessed with these sophie tracks. the glitchy looping effects on this one are everything. not a traditional banger but it has an infectious relentless energy constantly bubbling beneath the surface of the instrumental, like you feel if the tension builds any more something's gonna snap...

I remember this song being used in commercials in the early 2000s, had no idea it was from the '70s.
