Been listening to this alternate take of Spanish Bombs today and think I might like it better, aside from the vocals being mixed too high for whatever reason, but of course it's a great song that would sound good with almost anything you did with it. Love how dramatic and expressive the guitar sound is, the drums coming in and out like gunshots, and Strummer's messier vocals.

Maybe my favorite cut from the incredible Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon soundtrack. Seductive.

Released today - April 12th, 1983 - REM “Murmur” One of the best, most important, fully realized and - crucially - most mysterious of all Rock albums .....essential

Released today - April 13th 1983 - Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes ..........
The Holy Grail of Incel albums - but it's more than that stupid term : after all - no Violent Femmes - no Weezer Pinkerton ..........but then again no Modern Lovers debut - no Violent Femmes either .........this sort of record has its cultural roots in something much deeper that pops up every decade or so:
A sociopaths wet dream of subject matter - which (more than) suggests sex on the brain constantly, childhood abuse of some kind or another, stream of consciousness lyrics as a scribbled suicide note and even - with those gun metaphors (it's his dick, get it?) even darker stuff.........school shootings maybe, endless taunts and humiliations definitely............... and the wielding of power by the powerless ........... not only did music nerds - or nerds in general - like this - so did The Dumb Jocks ........
8+ years before Nevermind - this fine album was also loved by its own generation of dumbasses who had hot girlfriends, cool cars and who whistled it to themselves ............while unironically shoving your face into a school water fountain .......

Been listening to the the Stones deep cut Ride on Baby. One of the best of their brief baroque pop period (maybe only behind the classics Ruby Tuesday and She's a Rainhow) and maybe the meanest lyric Mick every wrote about a woman which is saying something when Yesterday's Papers and Under My Thumb exist. They recorded it during the Aftermath sessions but it would not have fit there but it would have been perfect on Between the Buttons, probably the best song on the UK version without the singles. So IDK why it got relegated to the off compilation Flowers.

Great song indeed - from a fascinating period in their Godhead career ............I'd also add my personal fave - this lyrical run of nastiness from Respectable - from 10+ years later with Mick at his absolute bitchiest - "You're a rag trade girl.....you're the queen of porn......you're the easiest lay on the White House lawn".........
There are others but that one is a personal fave probably because he was 35 when he sang it and it was so ........um........unexpected

Tonight- The Move
I was championing The Move on here a year or two ago and here's a very deep cut from them (not even on Spotify!) from their later generic classic rock period. Not usually my kind of thing but a very interesting fuzzy guitar sound and of course a great melody from Roy Wood as always seemed to be the case with him, very underrated as a pure melodist and I'm not sure why something like this wasn't a big hit back then.
