The funniest part is he KNEW it wrong, and so he handed it off to Dunaway to read. What can you expect from a man who would marry Annette Bening? Just like "Ahh, fuck it".

I think he was more so looking at Faye as 'wtf do we do here'? And it was Faye who then said La La Land.

And so right after you can hear him say "it says Emma Stone" and she says "what?"

She thought he was being silly and doing a bit and he thought she will check what he just read and probably go 'um something is wrong' just so much confusion

I think he was more so looking at Faye as 'wtf do we do here'? And it was Faye who then said La La Land. Exactly this. You can see how confused he is. And I don't blame him that much. Being on this stage and then getting trapped in this totally unexpected situation. That must have made him very confused and nervous. I don't know how fast I would have reacted. And what the right reaction would have been. Probably claiming that there must be an error and he somehow got the wrong envelope.

I wonder what Warren would have done if he was alone on stage, would he have eventually said la la land, or would he have said something is wrong?

Beatty is getting too much hate for this. It's not even his fault. He's clearly confused and looking for help. He reaches out to his on screen partner as a way to say "look at this, what do we do." and she just reads the name of the movie - not even Emma Stone's name.
I can see how it can get screwed up but this is definitely more on Faye.

He could've been more proactive in that moment, but Faye's the dumbass who just blabbed "La La Land" without noticing that they were clearly looking at the wrong card.

Yeah but he doesn't wanna be the idiot who says it's the wrong card if it actually isn't, he just didn't expect Faye to read it out loud.

It's really unfortunate. They're older people, there is so much pressure and this was unprecedented situation.
To see Horowitz just yank this card of Betty's hand there was really saddening and shocking.

Everyone keeps saying how graceful this guy was but no, that was just horrible, he handled everything else well but this is what I will remember from his behavior. Not only is Beatty not entirely at fault here, he is an older guy and an actor who really deserves respect. That was really an awful moment.

i dont really blame either of them.
warren went to faye for affirmation- not to pawn it off on her. and she, like the rest of us, thought he was kidding/being obnoxious, and read the name to get it over with.
it was just a freak accident.

Warren Beatty knew and he should have said something - instead of just standing their grinning.
It was caught on video: After Faye Dunaway announced L3, he said to her the card read Emma Stone - and she said What?

I was imagining the rest of the night consisted of Horowitz saying "I'm so happy for Moonlight" over and over again, every time more aggressive than the last, before ultimately punching everyone and everything in his vicinity in a Hulk-like rage.

You don't have to call her a dumbass. She's just elderly and confused in a confusing situation. That's like insulting someone's great grandmother.
