Sounds kind of like Sam Shepard's Buried Child.

Okay, I just finished the book.
First of all, WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH THIS MOVIE. It's finished, has a running time, and was set to be released in early 2020 and yet we still have no trailer or release date.
Second, it is both appropriate and ironic that Kaufman is adapting this story. For one, for the bulk of it, it's weird, deranged, meditative, haunting, and you spend a lot time inside the main character's head. It was legitimately spooky and intense and I loved imagining it as a Charlie Kaufman horror film. That said, it also completely (IMO) shits the bed in the end with a twist that basically derails any intrigue the book had been setting up with the most offensively unoriginal reveal. But that's also what intrigues me most. If anyone's seen Adaptation and read this book, you'll know what I'm talking about. There is no effing way that Kaufman actually adapts the book's real ending. This seems like the type of book he read and thought "that was so good until it wasn't, I bet I can make it better". I need to see what he does with this story.
Also, I love Jessie Buckley and I'm happy she's getting this opportunity, but reading the book (well, listening to the audiobook) Brie Larson was absolutely perfect casting.

Oh honeys, did anyone else hate Anomalisa? I hope he's returned to form as I loved his earlier works.

Interesting cinematographer here to note - Lukasz Zal, Oscar nominated for both Ida and Cold War........

Recently read the book. Found it to be an insanely addictive read (think I read it in about two days), with Reid having a great flair for suspense and establishing an uncomfortable, off-kilter vibe through his description. However, the ending was a pretty big let down, feeling like the cheapest way for it go out, even though I do think it made sense after looking back at details throughout the story.
Still, I'm very intrigued to see what Kaufman does with the material, and I imagine he'll add his own spin to it all that might make it more interesting and creative. Plus, that cast is to die for. Roll on September 4th!

LMAO at Netflix stacking up their chips. Other studios don't know how to play the game.

I finished the audio book and I think this is going to be very divisive. I found the last act to be incredibly unsatisfying, but I'm still curious how it will play out in the film and what changes (if any) are made. Reminded me a lot of a certain 2003 film that got a lot of shit for doing something similar.

Charlie Kaufman sounds an awful lot like pacinoyes .................but pacinoyes 2 years ago .........hmmmmmmmm.......... I wonder if he reads this board ....um, hey charlie PM me buddy Netflix takes Soderbergh's High Flying Bird Sep 12, 2018 at 2:32pm
It's hilarious to me that no one (still?) is really giving them credit for changing the face of film forever, already. People still talk about "the Netflix issue" - but no one in Hollywood is buying it in private now at all - everyone wants complete control and the exposure and money - maybe Spielberg in public can say whatever stupid stuff he just said (just 6 months ago!) but no other filmmaker who has ever had to struggle for financing and opportunity is believing that nonsense of his now.
