FAMILY MEETING (arguably the greatest series finale of all time) aired 10 years ago today.
Complete series coming out on blu-ray next month... gonna pick it up once the price goes down and give this bad boy a long overdue re-watch.
For now... let's discuss favorite seasons, top 5 performances, the GOAT-worthiness of Walton Goggins' performance.... etc.

One of the rare shows that actually got better as it went on, culminating in a phenomenal four-season stretch at the end. I'd argue that Goggins and CCH Pounder give the greatest supporting turns in television history, male and female categories. Chiklis is revelatory and it also managed to make Anthony Anderson one of the greatest villains in TV, as well as Close and Whitaker being excellent foils for Mackey in their respective seasons. Honestly, the only weaknesses of the entire series was the relatively weak third season and the fact that Dani and Julien became such unimportant non-entities after Season 3 that, in all reality, they should have been the ones killed instead of Carl and Scooby in Season 4, to heighten the stakes.

Had its definite ups and downs, but I overall have a very fond opinion of it. First three seasons are solid stuff, though my interest was waning by the end of the third. Seasons 4 and 5 brought things surging back with some truly riveting television, aided by magnificent turns from Forest Whitaker and especially Glenn Close. 6 was mostly meh in my opinion, but S7 was some of the most addictive stuff I've ever seen, culminating in that phenomenal finale.

One of the best aspects of the show is the fact that stuff they do in the pilot is constantly brought up to bite them in the ass throughout the entire series.
Add to that a great ensemble (rife with short-lived supporting parts like Whittaker) and a gritty look and feel. Mmmhmmm. Still one of my favorite shows of all time.
Except for you, Mara. Fuck you, you Yoko Ono!

I saw that it has Walton Goggins in it and 7 full seasons of content. The trailer for season one really caught my eye (which I looked up recently) . I have never seen a single episode of it but I'm very intrigued by it and may pull the trigger on buying the full series on Amazon (I believe its under 40 bucks ). Any thoughts on this series? I would love the feed back and please don't relieve too many spoilers for me haha. Thanks in advance!

Fuck yes, it is. A top five series of all time, and unlike most shows, it only gets better as it goes on. The last three seasons stand a strong case of being among the best television ever produced, and that finale will haunt you forever. It also boasts two of my all-time winners in Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress for TV.

Absolutely. One of the all-time greats. And the finale has a case for being the best in a TV show ever.

Absolutely, it's a fantastic, gritty drama that's consistently watchable even in its rougher patches. Seasons 4, 5 and 7 are among the very best I've ever seen, with the finale being absolutely perfect. I could sometimes get frustrated by the main character Vic Mackey, who's schtick could get a bit repetitive at times, but there's a plethora of fascinating supporting characters to offset this, including stunning one-season appearances from Glenn Close and Forest Whitaker. Enjoy the binge

Yup. I did so last summer during lockdown, and it was a BLAST! Had a giant hole in my life I just have not been able to fill since I finished it.

Well I was planning to watch it all again soon after and would have done after that, but time just got away from us.

How does this compare to The Wire or The Americans? I am somewhat interested. Haven’t watched a tv show since The Crown s4.

The Shield is the yin to The Wire's yang, and frankly, any viewing of one should be immediately followed by a binge of the other. If The Wire is Dickens for the modern era, with its sprawling characters and storylines that are interconnected mosaically, then The Shield is a Shakespearean tragedy at full-throttle, focusing on the rise and fall of a few souls.

Just picked up the box set (all 7 seasons) and I gotta say this show fucking rules! I'm knee deep in the 1st season and love it so much. Very addictive !
I had no clue who Michael Chiklis was but I do now. What a talented actor he is.
Can't believe I slept on this show for far too long. Its flat out awesome
