Last pacinoyes holiday song for this Christmas 2020 season, proto-Punk Godhead The Sonics re-write the very first proto-Punk song - Chuck Berry's "Too Much Monkey Business" (1956) - which included a line about a blonde (white) woman he's um seeing (but not marrying or in love with!) and it's not hidden or written in any kind of code you'd have to figure out either. The Sonics take it and write a bunch of nonsense about not getting presents they wanted over the same music which is kind of privileged and racist ......nah, just kidding.......both versions are kind of bad-ass. Merry Christmas!

Just discovered the Eddie Higgins Trio and their Christmas song arrangements... what a gem this album is. Up there with Vince Guaraldi if you want great Christmas jazz. Definitely going to become part of my yearly holiday playlist from now on.

What's this? A Christmas-themed protest song from the greatest rock singer? Yes please!
I remember that my mom had an album of patriotic songs about the greatness of America, and the spoken word bits between songs like "The Greatest Land" were kind of like this song. They would talk about how America is a wonderful place, but there's a darkness to its people that we must all collectively strive to overcome. America may be a wonderful land in theory - and that should be celebrated! - but it is ultimately no better than its people, and its people are people like you or me listening and then choosing what path to take when the song ends.

Brings back memories of when my symphony orchestra in college performed Nutcracker at a winter concert but with a jazz ensemble on stage with us doing their own rendition of each movement after we played the Tchaik version.

Beebe Gallini - You Ain't Getting Nothin' (2021)
They made pacinoyes' iconic Best Cover Songs of 2021 list - and that list is unfuckwithable - for their bad-ass version of "Nobody Loves The Hulk" ....... and now improve a thoroughly dull original song (is there any other kind?) by Hell's House Band The Goo Goo Dolls.

Not exactly holiday music, but the use of sleigh bells and flutes at the beginning always makes me (and others) think of Christmas. Also, since this is the year of Mahler in movies, I figured this was apt.

The Photocopies Christmas Alone (2022)A genuinely great new Christmas song........and a Power Pop one.......and it's funny, sweet, mentions a lot of the other Rock Christmas songs (including Slade and Wizzard and that damn Wham! one), swipes I think from Cat Stevens in the melody too .......this is kind of brilliant actually .......

Christmas music pet peeve - my local "continuous Christmas music" radio station playing so many shitty cover versions of classic songs. Not interested in hearing the latest overproduced, oversung rendition of "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," just give me Brenda Lee thanks...
