This all sounds very interesting for sure. As or massive fan of the original I'm excited to see how it turns out.

Ugh, not him. I remember when Del Toro was attached (among ten thousand other things). That sounded like a match made in heaven. Wish he was doing this instead of Pinocchio.
Not quite sure what I feel about the new setting and a period setting? God forbid a single Hollywood movie can take place anywhere but in the US. Wish it was at least contemporary. It's not like racism in the south is a thing of the past.
So I'm guessing Angela Bassett or Alfre Woodard for the grandmother (both would be wonderful). As for the witch? I'm guessing Sandra Bullock, Charlize Theron, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie (although with the Maleficent series, I doubt she wants to be typecast as a deformed witch).

Zemeckis is one of the worst directors in the world.

When the world truly needs James Cameron to raise the bar, he's doing those fucking Avatar Sequels.

I didn't like the original, but even that looks to be The Godfather compared to this.

Looks fun. Would love to see Zemeckis work with Denzel again. Thought they did great work together on Flight.

Looks fun. Would love to see Zemeckis work with Denzel again. Thought they did great work together on Flight. Agreed. Maybe it's because my exceptions were mixed, and while I'm expecting it to be blasted by critics, it looks pretty good. I'm a fan of Bobby Z's visual style, and while this has the potential to get really CGI messy, I still enjoy the imagery I've seen in the trailer. Also interesting to note that it's being co-written by Kenya Barris of Black-ish and Girls Trip fame (GDT only has a screenplay credit because he worked on an earlier draft), which may explain the added race component. Would love to see Zemeckis works with Denzel as well. Certainly he could use a box office boost right now.

Indeed..they had good success with Flight at the box-office and it kind of brought Zemeckis back in a way from his heavy-filles Mo-Cap 2000s. They got along great during filming so I can't see why they wouldn't work together again if the opportunity presented itself. As far as The Witches, yeah I see the critics getting their knives out for this one but it looks like a fun children's type of movie and they're releasing it on HBO Max at the right time before Halloween. Hathaway seems to be enjoying camping it up with whatever accent she's going for. From what I've heard on AW, they tweaked the script to reflect the BLM protests this past year thus seeing more of the race element in it. Don't know how much it will reflect in the final product but Kenya Harris being involved is interesting. I'll always be a fan of Zemeckis so I'll check this one out.

I don't think it looks like a rolling dumpster-fire like Burton's reimagining of a beloved Dahl classic, but aside from Spencer looking like she's having a blast (and I'm sure she will be more than worth the price of admission), I can't say this trailer filled me with excitement.

There's actually somebody on a discord I post on from time to time who worked with Zemeckis up until Flight, and he mentioned that Denzel was the most professional actor he had the pleasure of seeing. I'm guessing they didn't work together for the same reason that Washington and Ridley Scott haven't crossed paths again, Zemeckis hasn't been involved with a script yet that would be appropriate for Washington's talents again.

Nice, that's cool to know. Shame that's the case though..same with Ridley. Ridley's brother, the late Tony Scott, knew how great it was to have Denzel as his "muse" and hitched his wagon to hm. Hope Zemeckis can find something him and Denzel can work on.

Robert Zemeckis is a middle-brow hack mostly tbh........and I'm not sure middle-brow and Roald Dahl mix in any way.......maybe it's a bad trailer but that appeared utterly charmless.

Bob Zemeckis wrote and directed arguably the greatest trilogy in film history.
If Zemeckis never did any anything other than the Back To The Future trilogy in his career, he'd still go down as a legend. And he did far more than that. A brilliant filmmaker, despite some lesser films in recent years and misguided mo-cap experimentsm
Not sure how the word "hack" and Zemeckis could be reasonably used in the same sentence, but it takes all sorts I guess.

Heck Zemeckis could have retired to riches with BTTF, Roger Rabbit, Gump, and even The Polar Express, and his influence could still have been felt. He's always been a pushing cutting edge technology kind of whiz-kid, and while his recent films haven't all been great, though I'd argue that they are underrated as well (even Welcome to Marwen I didn't hate, I was just a bit more apathetic to it), but much like with Spielberg, I'm always interested when he makes a movie, because even when it's a "failure", it's still fascinating.

Absolutely. Putting Zemeckis in the realm of being a "hack" is such a monumentally, historically bad take, that it's hard to know if your leg is being pulled Not only has he made several great films, he's taken a lot of insane risks that he really didn't have to, to challenge himself as a filmmaker.

Yeah, don't get me wrong -- I think Zemeckis's latter-day output leaves a lot to be desired, but the man's '80s output alone consecrates him as a great. If we're going to give passes to certain actors who had incredible performances early on and then went on to more underwhelming fare as they got older, Zemeckis is more than worthy of that discretion as well.

Sure I can understand somebody not caring for his work. His movies can often still push that 1980s Amblin style sentimentality to a full, but I've never thought of him "unoriginal or boring", since so many of his movies reflect who he is as an artist, and his somewhat "cuckoo mind". I mean he still writes his own movies unlike a lot of his peers from the 1980s. It's like calling Tim Burton a hack just because he's on autopilot mode for a decade +. At one point his work was daring, and it still reflects who he is, he's just trying to keep up with the changing times.

I think Zemeckis has been underrated in getting credit for pushing forward the technology advancements of the medium. Obviously Spielberg, Lucas, and Cameron will get the lions share of the credit but I think Zemeckis has been very instrumental in moving the medium forward in regards to technical advancements with Back to The Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit. And I also think he's underrated in getting great performances from his actors. Definitely a legend, and for a certain generation they grew up on his films.
