I don’t think the Oscars are going to touch this one but it sounds like this will RULE.

Footage/trailer seems to have made a big impression. Seems like Denzel is poised to be a scene stealer judging by several reactions. Mescal, Quinn & Pascal seem to be impressing as well.

still way too early to predict it for anything major (except for Washington tbh), but I'd be shocked if it isn't a tech player at least. It's going to be Ridley's highest grossing movie in a while.

Nah, Washington won't be nominated.
The competition looks crowded in Supporting already.

Apparently, the GOAT is wearing hoop earrings in this . Oscar nod or not, I think this already sounds like it's going to be one of his most memorable roles just with that visual alone.

Nah, Washington won't be nominated. The competition looks crowded in Supporting already. I'm not saying he's 100% definitely gonna get nominated ( in case someone is screenshottng this as we speak to say I told ya so if it doesn't come to fruition ), but betting against Washington getting nodded in a prestige film with a standout role is borderline insane at this point with his track record. He's AMPAS favorite working male actor, with Nicholson retired. I don't think there's any competition big enough to prevent him getting nodded, if the role and the performance are there. Winning is a different matter, but nominations have always been the easy part for Denzel.

Let's go Ridley! Please hit this one out of the park.

Let's go Ridley! Please hit this one out of the park. I always forget, Ridley Scott has never won an Oscar, of any kind. Which I find kind of shocking. He was an uncredited executive producer on Gladiator, but that production credit wasn't enough to win him a share of the Best Picture Oscar when it won. Scott is 86 years old and still cranking out major films. He's one of the all-time great directors in many people's eyes. I feel like if Gladiator 2 delivers, one of the biggest potential award season narratives would be to make sure Ridley finally wins an Oscar.

I still have no faith in this 300 million dollar movie. It still sounds like a financial catastrophe.

Hard to get hopes up, it's easy to be wowed by a trailer for a Scott film (hard to ever question his technical mastery), its the screenplay that will make or break the film, and this one is written by David Scarpa who has yet to write a triumph.

The biggest hurdle for him is he has to deliver with this, like you said. I feel the box office will be there for this film if it can get the reviews, which would be great momentum heading into awards season. With its release date and prestige involved, Washington and Scott specifically, it’s going to be priority viewing for Academy members. If it can all fall into place, there can be a great narrative for Scott.

Hearing how epic/bonkers it is, makes it hurt even more that Barry had to drop out

Hearing how epic/bonkers it is, makes it hurt even more that Barry had to drop out Depends if you think epic /bonkers sounds really cool or possibly silly..... .....but Barry may have a tattoo of a shark or rhino at least ........ from the movie he made instead - Bird :

Joseph Quinn & Lupita Nyong'o talking about the Gladiator 2 footage. Lupita looking and sounding particularly fine. Shame she isn't in the movie.

Fine is an understatement for her lol. Alright then.... breathtaking . Quinn must be enjoying the promo they are doing together for A Quiet Place: Day One, because he gets to look at her face all day.

Andrew J Salazar, the owner/editor of Discussing Fillm, asked what he thought Gladiator 2 Oscar possibilities were after seeing the Cinema Con footage. Thinks Denzel is specifically coming for supporting actor based on the performance he's giving in the footage, Mescal could sneak into Best Actor, and Ridley Scott could get in for Director. He thinks it's more a case of "how many Oscars will it win", than "will it get nominated for any Oscars".

Word of Caution: This report comes from World Of Reel, so there is every chance it could be completely made- up bullshit. But unfortunately there are some people who like using this as a source here, so it'll probably get posted anyway, so might as well do it myself.
According to World Of R**l, a 2 hour 40 minute cut of Gladiator 2 was test screened in Las Vegas last night. Says the film is Oscar worthy, and Mescal, Denzel and Connie Neilsen are the standouts. All sounds wonderful, but again, World Of Reel, so grain of salt and all that.....

Mostly from some posters on the r/oscarrace subreddit, so take that for whatever its worth. But most movie site media felt that the Gladiator 2 footage was the highlight of Cinemacon this year and it excited exhibitors, so its interesting. I'm eagerly awaiting the first trailer for this to see what its looking like.

I'm eagerly awaiting the first trailer for this to see what its looking like. I believe there were authentic test screenings that have been extremely positive. I just question whether World Of Reel genuinely had anyone inside of those screenings giving him the lowdown, or whether he might just be making up a report based on vague positive chatter from other industry folk like this: A poster on Goldderby called Oleageoun claims to have see the Test screening of Gladiator 2, says Denzel is the standout and has this as their predictions: Best Picture ( Probably Won't Win Because It's a Sequel)
Best Director ( Says Scott might win as consolation for not winning Best Picture)
Best Actor ( thinks Mescal is only in contention for a nomination, not a win)
Best Supporting Actor ( Says, "99% confirmed Denzel is winning")
Best Supporting Actress ( Says Connie Neilsen is in contention for a nomination and win) Best Screenplay (Nomination Only)
